Over the years I lived with the impression that 770xx models are the best.
From your point of view which are the best models and why: 700xx, 750xx, 770xx, 790xx or 900xx?
    Thanks!

    Worst of the bunch: 7500x
It introduced the new IOP chip and with it, many new incompatibilities.
Some PS2 titles didn't run anymore, many PSX titles broke.
Later models mostly fixed that again.
Best of them: 9000x (with older, FMCB capable boot rom)
I found these to be very reliable, cool and quiet running versions.
The integrated power supply is nice and usually they have very little operating hours on them.

The external power supply is international. A little bonus.
YMMV if the system is PAL. SCEE did not release a game compatibility list for slim models.

@rama: is it truly a lot? I mean, if we compared the list of incompatible games against the library of PlayStation and PlayStation 2 titles, it seems like a pretty small list.
Although in comparison with the older models that have a real IOP (SCPH-70000 and earlier), the compatibility rate is undoubtly lower.

By the way according to multiple sources the first three digits represents the model number of the console and the last two digits represents the region. The serial on the bottom of the PlayStation 2, for example SCPH-77003 can be interpreted like model 770 region 03 (UK) or SCPH-77012 - model 770 region 12 (Mexico?).

From my point of view I think the best PlayStation 2 slim models remains SCPH-770xx and maybe (I don't have one to test it) SCPH-900xx.

Wow, didn't realize there was so many revisions with such changes. Hows the 79001?

SCEI has its own page as well. But it does not seem to be a large portion of the games released either.

In the first place, the PlayStation 2 did not have perfect compatibility with PlayStation games, since it does not have a physical GPU; in PS mode, the GPU is emulated in software with the EE.

It just rubs me the wrong way. The whole range of PAL consoles they could hardly be bothered to tell people about the compatibility.

If there is any consolation, my own region probably had no notifications about this either.... :(

06 is NTSC-J, but most people from its region do not understand Japanese. In fact, I am not sure what games we even have lol
