Living in Europe all my life, all the knowledge I have about American and Canadian prejudices as well as real differences between those two countries are a result of TV & film consumption. What exactly are the reasons for both countries to constantly make fun of each other? ^_^ 1: Don't call me your friend, buddeh! 2: I'm not your buddeh, guy! 1: I'm not your guy, friend! I assume it's not all aboot mannee afterall? ... It's not like we in Europe wouldn't understand, we're making fun of each other country all the time  Oh, and something else... according to my research, marihuana is as illegal as it is in the US (medical prescription only), but why is Canada so easily associated with cannabis consumption?
As far as pot goes it's not legal by any stretch, it was moving that way but then Harper got elected so that stalled. Most Pot in the US comes from us and we do smoke a LOT or at least I do Differences aren't that much having lived in both countries. National pride is worn on the outside in the US, in Canada it's displayed within yourself. In Canada we never fought a civil war and really pay more attention to the Quebec issue. I would argue we Canucks are a more conservative lot on the whole. I find Americans to be more open and friendly in general vs Canucks. You can't compare TV, the US is light years ahead of anyone, most of our shows well you know it's Canadian when it's boring. Comedies seem to have best impact from us in that sense.
It's more like a football or in europe a rugby sorta thing. It's like the country you are in is your team and your rooting for them. It's quite ridicules thing actually, but it's done more in good fun. We have a lot of comedians from Canada and some often joke about their Canadian heritage and what Canada is like. As for medical marjauna in the the U.S., only certain states support it, ca being the most well known. In fact in CA it is on it's way to be legalized and taxed.
Canada is known for consumption of pot because in alot of towns the cops just plain don't care. they are more worried about the meth labs, crackheads and gangs that pot just isn't a big thing. unless your known for moving large quantities around or selling most likely you'll never have a problem back in my old town smoking in the park by the beach was a favorite of me and my friends. a small police patrol building is less that a 2 minute walk away and right in view and i never had a problem. but its also a matter of being smart. don't get in people way with it and no problems come from it. instead of walking down main smoking. take the alley. its a quicker path to downtown/the beach, and you won't be getting smoke in everyones faces. its all about common courtesy as for the other part sayin999 pretty much got it spot on. its like a friendly sport. we just love to make fun of each other and we all get laughs out of it
You are not allowed to murder people in Canada. But seriously, there really doesn't seem to be much difference. Canadians seem less quick to anger.
Sadly american thug rap culture is fucking up canada. canada has a lot of low income areas and now everyone thinks they are some kind of gang leader. Murders are up too because of the culture taint. Canadians are like genteel americans with half the blood lust.
