    Hi everyone,

I noticed recently that my GameGear screen is different from usual game gear release.

The most popular screen is bent screen as you can see :

    But mine is flat :

It was very difficult to find this picture.
    I bought mine in France , the launch day in 1991 or 1992 ( i forgot ) .

Have you an explanation of this change ?
Is it a collector model ?

    Thank you very much.

    ps. sorry for my english

It's uncommon, but not rare. I forget why they used a rounded front piece on some, but not others.

    Odd.
I've had several game gears over the years and they've all had the rounded piece. Didn't even know a second iteration existed.

The ones with grey blobs above the GG logo don't work with the TV tuner apparently.

Both versions of the screen cover are made of plastic. The flat one is from the first model Game Gears. Later Game Gears introduced a "produced by or under license from Sega Enterprises" screen BIOS, as well as the rounded screen cover.

wouldn't it be a good reason to switch to plastic?

Can you get us a closeup of the edge of the faceplate? I want to see if it's plexiglass or actual tempered glass.

The flat Game Gears are plexiglass. I've seen a few of these in the junk bins at Hard Off. They normally sell for 500 yenor less.

as for telling if yours does not support the tv tuner, the ones that dont do not have color in the left corner of the handheld which is the red, green, blue logo about the words game gear, i guess the gray scale in the later versions logos is suppose to represent no support for the tv tuner, since im guessing those colors represented the colors that make up a tv screen.

Never seen the flat plexi. It looks very appealing to me.

I've been thrwing around some ideas about GG in my head for a while now.
I just wish I had the time to do what I had ideas about.

The flat plexi makes the design so much more attactive in my opinion.
