    I have two GBA SP's
One that when you press the back light button it turns it off, the other that has a button that if you press it, it makes the back light stronger.
What are the different names to these SPs? I figured the first one is the regular SP, and the second one might be a SP plus, but i don't ever remember it being called the SP Plus. Idk.
If it helps, the one with the button that turns back light off has a "who are you" graffiti on it and is black.
The one with the two backlight settings is a light blue.
    Thanks,
    Chi kitory

Nintendo just updated the SP around the time the micro was released. I don't think it has a different name, they were just offered in different colors.

One of them is an AGS 001 and the other is an AGS 101 there was no difference in name they were just advertised on the packaging as having a new brighter screen.

One is back lit the other is front lit.

the AGS 101 is a true lcd screen with a back light and everything

the AGS 001 is just front like it uses the SAME lcd that the original game boy advanced used just with a built in worm light

the 101 came out at the same time as the micro

well it is not just a built in wormlight.
The technik they used is almost the same way like Triton Labs offered it for the original GBA. It is a foil over the screen witch can be lit.
This is much better than a wormlight but not as good as backlit.

I remember magazines calling the updated one the GBA SP+, can be quite hard to get hold of these days. The screen difference is crazy though, comparing the two of them the updated one is a vast improvment!

Was the screen on the NES GBA SP similar to that of the AGS 101?

One annoying side effect of the updated screen is that it has a slower refresh rate than the original (you can see it going a bit blurry on side-scrollers like mario)

I think all the special edition SPs are AGS 001 screens. My mate has the NES one and it's the older screen.

You sure about this? The older screen looks a lot more blurry to me.

I have never seen the blurry effect with my 101. Ditto for the Micro.

I read it somewhere, and I see it more with my brighter GBA SP, before the screen on the original GBA SP broke.
But if you load up a side-scrolling mario on the Gameboy for Gamecube and GBA SP Brighter Screen, I notice there being a slower refresh rate on the GBA.

    Edit: http://uk.gameboy.ign.com/articles/652/652641p1.html
"The updated GBA SP's screen is now on par with the Game Boy Micro, at least in brightness and clarity. But it's not perfect -- the refresh rate is a tad slower than the classic GBA SP and Game Boy Micro screen"

Never ever noticed a difference, plus the new better screen negates any shortcoming.

I am hoarding all of these I can find, in Japan they sell for $ now they are so hard to get!!

I'd need a slightly more reputable source before I take that seriously, to be honest.

Well I notice it, it's doesn't bother me all that much because I can actually SEE the screen.

I noticed that too, I got mine from america for like $30 inc. shipping and now on ebay they're like $50 each excluding PnP!
