For those of you that have seen Digimon: Episode 13 of season 2, you may remember there being a silhouette of a gigantic Sea creature in the "Dark" world Kari is brought into. That Digimon is NEVER talked about again in the story, and left me baffled for the longest time. Long since then, I have discovered the power of Torrents. I began rewatching this episode, and after being wiser to Cthulu mythos I have read over the years, I met several Lovecraftian similarities in this episode. Well, Its actually pretty blatant if you knew anything about Lovecraft or his works, anyway. I then did a google search for Digimon and Cthulu. After a few hours, I found some neat info and even translated sections of the Dark world. Throughout this episode, several Fish like monsters attack Kari and as sick as it is, in the Japanese version, they want to procreate with her. She is like, 9 or 10 years old. The "Dark king of the ocean" is the name of the gigantic Digimon whose silhouette appears at the end of this episode, and bears a huge likeness of the Elder God himself. Eventually, his full form is shown, in the form of a trading card. Also, it is named after Dagon, who is a fish god thing, that appeared in some lovecraftian stories as well. In the US version of the trading card, they change his name to Dragomon. I suppose his being very similar to Cthulu was a reason they never expanded near epxlained his character in the series. Its not like very many people know about Cthulu, especially little kids. I just wish US Digimon remained faithful to the Japanese version. So much censoring.
You just reminded me how much I miss Digimon.. But only the first two seasons, after that it got crappy. *goes to download*
Yeah, the first and second seasons were the best. It kind of turned into Pokemon in the third season. Havent watched much of the other seasons.
I've never bothered with anything past season 4 I think. I don't quite understand why they couldn't have just kept the same damned characters active. Why do we need a new cast and new digimon every damned season?
not trying to ruin the party here, but wasnt that whole digimon stuff a blatant ripoff of pokemon? regardless, i always considered it to be crap, but tbh, i didnt really look into it, either.
When the show first appeared I, including some of my friends, thought it was a direct ripoff of Pokemon. I sure miss the original theme song! :020:
No, No, and No. :fresh: Digimon is in fact, OLDER than Pokemon, the series isnt about collecting Digimon to become "teh best" trainer on earth or whatever. Its actually a show about a band of kids with each their own Digimon, who fight evil demonic Digimon that want to take over the digi world and Earth eventually. I've only seen a few episodes of Pokemon, but that show seems overly kiddy as opposed to Digimon, which is more mature, yet still kiddy thanks to Saban. IMO Digimon > Pokemon If they made a decent Digimon game that was based in the first or second season, it would kick ass. OT I know this isnt related to Digimon in the least, but pretty soon Warhammer online is going to be released. Some idiots started saying "More like World of Warhammer!" When these idiots did not know that Warhammer online was in production BEFORE WoW was. It just didnt get completed in time. Penny Arcade made a pretty amusing comic on the subject. How does this relate to Digimon, you ask? Well, Digimon is older than Pokemon but it suffers being called "Pokemon Clone" by almost every Pokemon fanboy out there.
Pocket monsters was around way before digimon. Pocket monster was released in 1995 & Digimon was released in 1997. I still dont know why people compare them. One was a tamagotchi style keyring toy & the other a RPG.
I could have sworn I've seen commercials for the Tamogatchi Digimon around 1995-1996. Anyways, they are compared nowadays because they both have anime series with lots of talking battling monsters with masters, I guess.
Mr. Casual have you played any of the Digimon games for the Wonderswan / WSC? I've been planning on buying a couple for about 5 years now and was wondering if they are worth picking up for any other reason than just collecting.
Yes, Digimon was a lot better than Pokémon indeed. I remember the first episode here on the Dutch tv. It was a saturday morning, my mother had just come home from Caïro, and I had seen a commercial promoting the series and was interested. I watched the first 2 eps(they only aired in the weekends at that time, but at 2 episodes per day) and loved it. I was definetely hooked. Too bad the Dutch dubbing sucked quite a lot.
You guys watch digimon?h: man, suddenly I lost most of my respect towards some of the members here:-( Dude that's sick! and by the shape of the thing it looks like tentacle porn/hentai/loli/jailbait:lol:
I dont have any Digimon games. I just didnt like the art direction in any of them. I dont think there are many Digimon games that follow the original series, either. It would make a great RPG game, maybe a little similar to Pokemon or SMT, if someone tried to go down that route. Yes, I know it has god awful dubbing, and thanks to Saban, its extremely childish at parts, but that still doesnt mean the show sucks. I like the show a great deal and now, the first and second seasons are pretty nostalgic, also.
