Hello 2 questions about the Sega Master System FM sound. 1 - I have the Japanese Master System (with the FM unit built-in to the console), and I would like to know if its possible to disable the FM. I mean something simple, like turn on the console with 1+2+up or something like that. I like the FM sound, but some games I prefer the PSG sound. 2 - I will get a Master Everdrive, (I have a adapter to play sms games). So is it possible to patch roms to disable the FM sound? I know that there is something like a flag in the header of each game that will check if the system have the FM unit. So I was thinking to edit this flag to always says that there is no support.... so, I could copy 2 folders in the SD card.. one with FM, other without FM sound.
Very good question. Just bought a JPN Master System myself with western converter cartridge and have the Master System everdrive on its way to me. What a coincidence! I do love the FM in most games but also have a soft spot for the PSG in games such as Golvius.
There is a guy named ValleyBell that made a FM version of Sonic 1. Maybe he could help. I will try to contact him, but he is from Sonic Retro, a forum that never approved my account.
Success. After some research, now I can make IPSs files to patch all the roms. Well... I had success with Kenseiden and Altered Beast. I will try to do the same with all FM roms to make a noFM romset.
