So in the new year, it seems like a lot of Marvel games have been vanishing from digital distribution. First Marvel vs Capcom 2 and 3 from Capcom, then various Spiderman, X-Men, and Deadpool games from Activision. Besides being a good reason to hold on to your physical copies, what does this mean? Is Disney planning something, or do neither Capcom nor Activision care enough about those games to get a renewed licence? I think Disney might be considering making games in house, or possibly buying a game studio, preferably Capcom. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aX4RWmbDGQE
Some developers don't keep games on the stores for long periods of time, Deadpool being by Activision good luck. They don't want games that won't print money, they did the same with Blur...
It's all related to licensing issues. License contract expired, they removed them from the store... Welcome to the "digital world".
I already don't like fighters much as it is. Marvel vs Capcom 3 digital now Vita only is epic trolling.
Doesn't Disney already have a video game development studio(s)? Now that it owns Star Wars, Marvel, and Post-Crystal Skull Indiana Jones, it really is ready to do whatever it wants, not to mention make a "Ready Player One" sort of game. The games going out of print is because Marvel licensed their works to a bunch of studios, like how they did with the movies, and they would let them expire.
I think Capcom's ruined themselves this gen, on disc DLC, ruining/forgetting their biggest franchises (RE and Mega Man), and I think people are getting sick of a new "complete" version of SFIV every 6 months. I don't think they do, as I explained in my video, they sold Star Wars to EA, a bunch of publishers have been making Marvel games, and I don't think any Indy games are in the pipeline as of yet, at least since they shuttered Lucasarts
I wonder if Disney is gearing up to make a Kingdom Hearts/Marvel/Star Wars crossover.. It would become so overrated, so fast. Pictures of Fry from Futurama yelling 'just shut up and take my money' would flood messageboards and social media. It would be the biggest fan service game of all time, and make so much $$$ that maybe Disney would buy out Square Enix. Disney is the closest thing there is to a monopoly on creativity.
