I was just wondering what some of you have accumulated here for a much lower price than you had expected. :icon_bigg

Here are some of the best deals I have encountered recently...

    - Clear Blue N64 for $5
    - Sega Genesis for $5
    - Donkey Konga 2 Brand New with a Brand New set of Bongos for $15
    - P.N.03 for $2

Funny thing is, we have a store in North Hollywood (About a 30 Min Driver From Where I live) called "Game Dude" that has a ton of stuff. Its like a toned down American Super Potato. The prices for games are usually pretty high but they got some great stuff.

Anyway, they have a ton of "Broken" consoles for sale, each ranging from $2 - $5 that have tags on them saying "Console Powers On But NO DISPLAY --- NO REFUND", so I was like, ok, I will buy that clear blue N64 just for the hell of it. When I get home I plug it in just to see if they were mistaken, and yep, works perfectly.

So I go back 2 weeks later and buy a SNES and Genesis for a total of $7. Turns out the SNES is really broken, but the Genesis works perfect. Talk about lucky! I plan on going back there later to buy some broken PS1's and hopefully a 32X if they get one in.

SO! What are some Deals that you guys have stumbled upon? Anything supremely cheap?

Mr. Crazy, whereabouts in North Hollywood is this store? Because the one cool gamestore I used to go to in the Valley just recently closed down, now all that's left out here are the usual Hollywood video and Blockbuster places. It's really sad too as it was one of those places that had everything from the 70's onward, sold loose classic consoles for around $30 and games for obscure systems in the $2-$5 dollar range. They even had Neo-Geo stuff at somewhat affordable prices. Basically, I'm looking for a place that sells games for the less sucessful systems, 3Do, Jaguar, Sega CD, TG16.

The best deals I found were at pawn shops in the late 90's. Gaming was still wide open as far as being a money maker, so lots of people were trying to get in on the used and repair markets. Unfortunately, pawn shops got in way over their head and generally weren't equipped to make the kinds of repairs and modifications that people needed. I managed to get a Sega CDX for $20 that only needed a cart slot cleaning, a white JPN-region Saturn for $30 that only needed a video cord, and a Turbo CD attachment for free because they didn't know what in the hell it was.

The sad end to that story is, pawn shops are a lot more careful about what kind of gaming hardware they take in now. Most of the places I used to go to don't even buy games from their customers any more, so they don't have very many to sell you. It's just as well, since there's less potential and more hassle in fixing the new consoles, what with all the DRM and other security that's part of the package now.

Awesome kendrick, but I must say, now a days pawn shops are supremely expensive for most gaming goods. (At least where I live) Last I checked my pawn shop was selling a used XBOX for $150 with no Cords, Controllers.:banghead:

This game store, It looked familiar to me. I recognise it from advertisements in the 90s, they used to have large spread ads in GameFan magazine. Never knew the actual store was so close to me. Thanks for turning me onto this.

Craigslist can be a good place, especially if you don't have any moral arguments against buying blatantly stolen stuff (PSP for $80?)

I got my Dreamcast from there a while ago, not stolen, but $20 with 3 controllers, a VMU and no cables, but they're easy to buy.

Easy to buy yes, but that seems like a nice deal especially with 3 Controllers and the VMU!

I think also stores like EB Games are taking over in the used game market.
Unlike a pawn shop, they know how to deal with used games and systems (at least for PS1/2/3, XBOX/360, GameCube and WII which seem to be what the ones here in australia deal with) and know what to look for when buying used stuff (so that they dont end up with unusable crap)

I still find many good deals in Thrift Stores, especially for older systems that parents see no value in and therefor donate. I picked up boxed complete copies of the entire Wisdeom Tree NES catalog for 50 cents each. Not to mention tons of NES systems for $4 or less. Sega CD games (usually in the VHS section) for $1 each.

I've noticed some stores catch on and have ridiculous prices on this stuff now though, like loose SMB/DH carts for $8.

The rural pawn shops around here in KY are pretty cheap, especially the ones that focus on gun and jewelry sales. They try to move electronics as fast as possible to make room. But the pawn shops in urban areas that I've visited are ridiculous.
Yard sales are hit or miss but that's where you find the best deals because most folks don't know what old gaming stuff is worth.

Just got back from Game Dude, thanks for letting me know about it CrAzY. Picked up several Genesis games and one for the N64. You're right about the prices, some of them are a bit outrageous, but then there are also some that are less than what I would have been willing to pay. The fact that they charge the same whether the game comes with case/manual or not but that they then buy games for less if they don't doesn't make any sense to me. Though i did appreciate the free game cases for the cart only games, I wasn't expecting that. I thought they were just for display/storage and that they were just going to give me the carts. Going to stop by there more often. Unfortunately I didn't see any of the cheap "as is/broken" consoles other than a NeoGeo CD for 49.99...tempting, but that alone was more than I had intended to spend.

Hey, no problem samael64! Oh you live in Glendale, eh? I visit my dad there alot, and it is pretty close to Gamedude. But yeah, sorry about some of the prices, hahahaha. And yeah, their selling/buying prices do seem a little strange at times, :banghead:

So is $50 for a broken NeoGeo CD even a good price? (Just to let you know, I have very little knowledge in the field of NeoGeo)

What games did you pickup? If you dont mind me asking of course. :icon_bigg
And it is pretty nice that they give you some of the cases to protect your items. When I bought the 2 broken consoles and a dreamcast they gave me a giant box to put it all in.

I don't know if it was a great price...it would depend what was wrong with it I guess. From the looks of it, it was just missing the av and power cables and controller(s). I didn't bother to ask about it as it was more than I had planned on spending today, but the thought did linger in my head for a moment. I think they usually go for $150-200 working/complete.
I got War Gods for N64. Have never played it but I remember reading about it in Nintendo Power back when it came out.
For the Genesis I bought Primal Rage, Pitfall, Sonic Spinball, Power Rangers, Toy Story, Vectorman 2, Jurassic Park, and LHX Attack Chopper. Was going to get Stargate as well, but I just realized that I forgot to ask for it... I also wanted to buy Exosquad (huge fan of the show: see avatar) but could not bring myself to pay $12 for only the cartridge :-( . Mostly purchased games based on nostalgia, and then LHX was just really cheap. I was happy to see they had 3DO games, but they didn't have any systems :-( . Likewise with the Jaguar. Those are two systems I'd like to own, but e-bay sellers (the easiest place to find them for sale) seem to charge more than necessary for shipping, which puts me off a bit. I thought their prices for Saturn games were rather obscene, but they did have a decent selection of them. Only ended up paying about $17 for everything I bought, which is great in my book  .

I've visited this stores website before and often wondered if they were legit. Anyone take pics of what the store actually looks like?

Legit? Well, they are about as legit as a store can get! They just rob you of your cash quickly...

And as for pictures.... hmmm, not sure. But I can surely take some next time I go hopefully!
