For some time far ago, I've been thinking that the issue of cd reader saturn can be a problem because it is increasingly difficult to find replacements and time advance, and as for reasons of space is always better load programs, games, from ever smaller and practical storage.

I also see as Dreamcast there are several mods to make use of hard drive (powered externally) and even 2.5 fed from the console.

I asked the same thing in another thread that is intended for backup loader, but I would like all possible viewpoints.

You think that in the future, you can use either a hard drive via USB, welding plate or by means of an adapter or the like and to load things like full romset multiregion of SegaSaturn?

I do not know too much to load from sd, but on second thought, it would be difficult to change that by a reader sd usb?

I wait your answers, I think this along with an action replay cartridge would be the dream of every lover of Sega Saturn.

P.D: Please, sorry for my bad english

It is possible. Totally possible. Even without opening Saturn, via cartridge port. But "possible" does not necessarily means "will be done soon", and the latter interest you more i guess. The price of such a system could exceed current saturn price, and the price of the development would exceed many ebay saturn collection lots. Though the advantages are obvious, the disatvantage is quite a serious one.

But you can probably reduce both development and device cost using cubieboard or other SATA-capable DIY board out there. Still it would be more than $100, not even counting hard drive cost. And a two-board mess with SATA cable and drive protruding out of your cart slot will be ugly. Probably.

I think these cheap board are one of the door to create this mod, the hdd cost is very cheap (a 1tb hdd (2.5" usb 3.0) cost the same than 2 arp chinese).
I think if the cd unit is removed are space for this inside, but its only one idea, i need believe this is possible and in the future REAL...the life of cd unit is short and i dont think live more than 10 years more.

I already ask and he answered me "I have not Saturn". I think if he decide to create an USB plateform he it will do...but the Rhea saturn is a very good ODDE, work very fine, game is tke less space, and a 64GB SD card is sufficient for a very good selection.....

There's the Saroo (http://www.sarooo.com/) which seems to have gone cold, and the device a user here is working on off and on that links to the VCD port. Rhea seems like the only option on the horizon though. Just for ease of use though I'd prefer using an externally powered USB HDD for multiple consoles like this, although USB thumbstick capacity is growing and growing. As for MNEMO, I'm sure if he wanted, he could easily get his hands on a Saturn or two. He'd need at least two as it was produced with two different drive ribbons.
