Does anyone have more information about the Disk Dual for the Super Wildcard DX2 ? I always wanted such a nice addon for my SWC. However those units are hard to find and expensive today. I wonder if it FFE produced that units by themself or if they just bought one of those PC cases and sold it under a different name? You can find lots of old and cheap parallelport CD-drives for Computers. I wonder if they would work with the SWCDX2. Has anyone ever tried it?
It's their own design, but that design is built around a specific Kingbyte ATAPI<->LPT interface/so called "chipset". There are other devices out there such as CF adapters that use the same chip/protocol so that you can use them directly with your DX2. Which specifically I don't remember, hopefully Jagasian can chime in.
the diskdual is still for sale at FFE (send them mail they dont advertise for it anymore) also as for as i know all those CF adapter things never worked out, did they?
? Yes they work, and even better, you don't actually need a Disk Dual, you can just buy a compatible CF "drive".
I found 2 parallel cf card readers on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120077472887 http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260354326590 Would be nice if anyone can confirm if they work with the DX2
There is a long thread about it on Tototek: http://www.tototek.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1721&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=
A quick note - I corresponded with FFE today (on a different topic) and they will sell you a new diskdual for $150. Email: ffe@ms3.hinet.net
I've tested a few parallel port devices with the SWDX2, but unfortunately none of it was compatible: - MDCFE-SR Datafab Compactflash card reader - Freecom CD-ROM (Xilink chipset) Has anyone verified that the Multiport CD-Jet is compatible?
Probably found a compatible cd-reader I've found a Freeport CD-Star CD-ROM drive on a flea market, today. I connected it to the Wildcard and it seems to work. I can eject/load disks and play Audio CDs. I can access the file system of data CDs aswell. Unfortunately the Wildcard does not recognize my CD-Rs. I tried several formats: - Mode 1 Joilet - Mode 1 ISO 8.3 I only have Sony CD-Rs 700MB. I thought it is a problem with the old CD drive, so I replaced it with several other CD drives I own. Unfortunately I doesn't matter which cd drive I use, the Wildcard does not recognize the CD-Rs. On some drives it reports 0M on other drives it reports unknown disk. It would be very nice if someone could post an idiots guide for burning CD-Rs for the Disk Dual Another issue is probably the Kingbyte chipset. The Freeport CD-Star is equipped with the following chip: KINGBYTE KB-LCCM-93X KBIC 9520 Does anyone know if that chipset is fully compatible? btw, here are some pictures of the Freeport CD-Star. It's a very nice enclosure. It features an internal psu and mounting holes for the cd-drive on the left and right side. So you could easily replace it with a HDD or anything else.
I found this guide about burning CDs for the Wildcard: http://dos.heypoorplayer.org/swc/ The Wildcard recognizes my CDRs now:dance: I will get an IDE2CF adapter next week and try if it works.
great, it works with a CF adapter  So finally I have my own Disk Dual solution:nod: In the last 4 months I bought 4 parallel CD drives and 1 CF card reader. I've got most of the CD drives for free. The 4th drive, the Freeport CD-Star, had the Kingbyte chipset and worked fine with the SWCDX2. The total investment in my solution are just 14 Euros. The CF adapter fits perfectly under the CD drive. The whole case is much smaller than the original Disk Dual. The only problem I've discovered is that the Wildcard does not recognize CDs which stay in the drive after power down. You have to remove CDs before you switch off. But that's nothing serious. I made some photos of my mod. I'd be happy about some comments.
