I was given my little sister's frontlit GBA SP when she got a 3ds, because my mom knows I like older consoles, and I realized that the charger didn't work anymore (it had been a while since my lil sis had played with the console so she wouldn't have noticed), and so I have ordered a charger on ebay. but it's still gonna take a few weeks before it arrives and I was pretty curious about Magi Nation and Sigma Star Saga so here's what I did: I took a usb cable (mine was an old USB to Ethernet cable that didn't even work as advertized) and cut it in two. I pulled the red and black wires out and twisted them. Then, I pulled the gba's battery out, and I pressed the red wire to the + sign and the black wire to the - sign. Relieved that the battery didn't explode in my face after I plugged the usb cable into my computer, I used some tape to keep the wires pressed against the battery's contacts, and I left it to charge for about 45 minutes. After that, I tested the battery and lo and behold, IT CHARGED. For about 45 minutes of charging, I got over two hours of gameplay before I had to charge again. not bad, eh? the best part is that the battery had barely gotten warm so that's one less risk. So if you're out of a gba sp charger and you need something to charge it with until you get a replacement charger, give this a try.
Why not cut the old charger cable and use the plug end onto the USB end so you won't need to open it to charge battery? Or is the charger inside bad and you need to directly charge battery?
