Anyone got any info on DJ Box? It was a Japan only PS2 release that let you DJ and mix songs with the Dual Shock 2!! But what interests me is the fact that the HDD was required not optional, and you could rip your CD's as mp3's. I was thinking of home-brew applications/mp3 ripping?
I know it eats 4.7GB of my DESR-7500 HDD space when I enable it ... lol The 5500/5700/7500/7700 PSX come with a lite version of that software. The partition is named after the original disc ID so I bet they can exchange information. (disc vs PSX bundled version)
Thats really interesting, thanks l_oliveira. Is the "lite" version portable to a retail PS2? Native mp3 ripping would be a great addition to the PS2's functionality.. Just out of interest, can the already ripped mp3's in the 4.7GB partition be played with SMS media player?
I don't know what format they were but they were so big I suspect they were actually RAW data (PCM) lol
As you probably know PSBBN creates a similar, if not the same ~5GB partition for ripped raw .WAV files also. Its a shame as their size makes the feature limited..
I managed to get hold of a copy of DJ-box, It looks like it installs 3 partitions on the hdd, one is 512mb, the second is about 2000mb and the last is about 4000mb, all with different icons and visible/editable from within HDDOSD or PSBBN I think, just a we suspected the software rips the cd tracks to .wav. Using uLaunch each ripped track can be found along with its attribute file, and an image file. (I think)!! They are listed as .raw files. As suspected it requires an genuine Sony hdd, and won't function with the hacked versions of browser 2.00 or PSBBN. Ill try to export one of the .raw files to my mac and see if it is playable when i get a little more time. UPDATE: The audio files that DJ Box makes from your CD's is defiantly in .raw format, and as such is headless raw audio, I managed to "import" the file with audacity, and this gave it a basic PCM header and it then became playable, but sadly still as big as a .wav. The HDD structure is as follows. PP.SCPS-15082.DJBOX.SYSTEM/ PP.SCPS-15082.DJBOX.USER/ PP.SCPS-15082.DJBOX.COMMON00/ User ripped music is stored in the "common" partition as a .raw, with a .atr and.tm2 for each track. Pretty neat piece of software..
