A few of these came in the mail a few days ago, decided to crack one open and see what was inside.

Few supprises, it's a Sony Playstation 2 branded 40GB HDD inside, SCHP-20401, model 4D040H2. Also, there's no board converting the IDE signals into some sort of propritary format, it just runs the IDE straight through to the connector on the end of the unit. The small PCB inside just supplies the disk with power.

I took lots of pictures, and scanned the manual that came with it, all can be found at http://john.fakeplastic.com/images/DLTH10030A/

wow, that's pretty cool. I always kinda thought there would be a hamptster on a wheel inside, or maybe sawdust...

I've never been brave enough to crack one open. Thanks!
