With the recent site hack and database theft, it makes me question if it's responsible to keep the current private message / conversation option available, seeing that these messages are not encrypted and stored in plain text. At this point it's impossible to remove an private conversation, meaning that in the case of an future hack once again all our conversations and it's content will be on the street. This is especially troublesome for anyone having made any dealings on the marketplace, this exposes your e-mail, home addresses or any other information you may have shared trough direct messaging. I propose that this privacy matter is being resolved by giving us the members the option to remove conversations from our inboxes, instead of just "leaving" them be. And/or to start with a clean slate and proactively remove the current conversations (after given proper due notice), and include an warning when writing a private message about the possible security/privacy issues. UPDATE: Based on the above quote, @Admin please enable the edit function (if only for a limited time) so that every user has the ability to purge it's message history and use caution when using the message function in the future.
It's Xenforo. Other than turning off the edit restrictions, you can't delete a conversation without getting all parties to leave. There is no change to be made. The sensible answer is don't give personal information in a PM. Link to a photo of your e-mail address hosted on a site you control that you can delete. Or use a forwarding service and link to that (I think Bad_Ad has one in his sig?) Forum PMs have always been insecure, on just about any platform.
