    I have a V9 with a Matrix Infinity Green Dot, a V7 with a DMS4 Pro and a V10 with a Modbo 4.
I have had all 3 systems for years, I bought them brand new and not once have I had any problems.
It all comes down to personal choice and I have always preferred hardmods over softmods.
It's nice we have FMCB for people that are soldering impaired.

I've found that the majority of people who find FMCB to be superior over modchips are people who can't install their own modchips. If FMCB wasn't an option I'd wager they'd have no problem paying for a modchip to be installed but since they can get FMCB for free and either have it installed on a memory card for free or do it themselves they balk at the idea of paying for a modchip install.

Which I can't say I blame them, but suddenly it makes them an expert on what constitutes obsolescence with that 2-2.5% of games suddenly being irrelevant because their softmod of choice doesn't work with them. Of course if that game was GT4, MGS3 or FFX there would be a bit more kicking and screaming. I saw the same thing with Mac owners and PC games. As soon as Steam hit OSX suddenly Half-Life 2 wasn't a POS it was a great game. Cognitive dissidence is a fascinating concept.

Interestingly whenever you suggest that a modchip is the best way to fix many problems relating to softmods on the XBox people badmouth you right away. I've gotten negative karma on U-G for even suggesting a modchip is a better solution to putting in a larger HDD than trying to find a lockable IDE drive. But that place is full of ignorance and people trying to shortcut everything.

I assume you have a modbo clone that doesnt save settings?

The later ones do, I use those just fine.

I haven't tried changing the settings on the Modbo 4.0 1.99 I installed into a friend's v9 at all, they don't seem too interested in running any PAL titles. The Mars Pro I installed into my personal v9 will let you access the ToxicOS menu and change settings. After you tell it to save the settings it sits there with the notification up saying something along the lines of "SAVING SETTINGS" without dying anything else. Reboot and go back into the menu and you'll see that nothing was actually changed.

Which bothers me as I'd love to have ATAD patching enabled as well as whatever "DVD+DL support" does. It'll happily boot MGS2:Substance and GT4 from DVD+DL discs but the latter gives me a black screen if I attempt to use an Action Replay for cheats.

Just received a new SCPH-50001 guinea pig in the mail that will be getting a Modbo 4.0 1.93. Was hoping to drop a DMS4 in but it'll have to wait; thankfully it seems the DMS4 and Modbo both use the same points on the mobo negating any need for rewiring.

I always wanted a modded PS2 but I started with the SwapMagic and then eventually ended up with the FreeMCBoot and ESR. For awhile the main appeal was boot PS1 imports and cd-rs on the PS2 but given that its PS1 support is less than perfect which is unacceptable when I have a real PS1 it became less important.

The memory card exploit really is handy. I can't say I know of any games that don't work on the current version that I do want to play but I imagine there probably are a few. Oh I forgot for awhile I was using HDLoader for anything that didn't require Swap Magic. But that was always kind of annoying when you'd come across a game that didn't like HDLoader. But it sure was sweet for all the games that did cooperate. Particularly with its faster loading.

ah so I did post that above post twice.

I posted it in 1 thread, then looked at new posts and thought it had vanished... but I apparently just was looking in the wrong thread then posted it again

    oops

I did install the Modbo 1.93 earlier today and it did save settings just fine. ATAD patching doesn't seem to work (nothing appears in the browser) but I haven't really tried poking around.

Gran Turismo Geneva-Tokyo works quite nicely with NTSC forced with menu music sped up slightly from being PAL optimized.

My mission is accomplished thus far and the interest is far lower than I had initially anticipated.

I personally prefer mod chips over any kind of MC exploit any day. Especially one that doesn't work with stock copies. Surprisingly enough, I have three PS2 units in my possession. One is a V14 (I think?) slim with a cloned Matrix Infinity I got from China. One is a v9 fat PS2 with DMS4, and one is a v13 slim which has a DMS4 that is wired to accept external IDE hard drives.

I probably wouldn't have gone DMS4 SE Pro if it wasn't for built in HDD support. Otherwise I would have gotten Matrix Infinity installed which I'm told is much more reliable. With the exception of the Matrix Infinity Clone, for which I had no choice over.

I used a Matrix Infinity for a long time and was very happy with it, unfortunately the ps2 eventually ate the bullet entirely and won't power up anymore, havent found the time to switch the chip into another ps2

Just curious, how much did they rise? If it is still reasonable I would be willing to split shipping.

I'm new here but I would be totally in for 2 or 3. Was just scouring modchip sites for a few and thought I would get a at least one for now and maybe a couple for the future. Even if I found one i'm sure they would charge through the leg so count me in!
