I never really cared for the thing, but I've been able to keep in contact with a few people I wouldn't have been able to otherwise. I've almost shut it down any number of times, but it's a decent way to keep up with local shows and stuff.

I've never really been "in" to the whole Myspace thing because I think its mainly a kiddie thing. I thought about making one to announce the RMXP game I'm making so I could maybe start a team, but I then I had second thoughts. I think the vast majority of them would want to make it as "Japanese" as possible where I'm trying to go with a somewhat blend of Western and Eastern, as well as other cultural things in mine.

Long off topic rant aside, I'm also a loner and the need to send thousands of gramatically incorrect 1337 filled messages to each other is lost to me. You could also say Im on the trend hating bandwagon as well, and maybe I am.

I heard an Emo joke the other day during Spanish Class.

A perfect title for an Emo song would be "I cut myself because I love you as much as I hate me".

the "emo" popular style is based on goth-look. Goth look has nothing to do with goth music, and in turn nothing with Goth language or Architecture. Goth-look started with Edward Scizorhands (starring Johny Depp) .

Emo in Punk Rock terms, is punk rock music that doesn't involve idealogy (as in PUNK ) but rather emotional issues, eg, love hate etc.

As an oldschool skate-boarder and punk rocker, I have officialy nothing to do with those "emo" kids :p

It seems its just basically been these different mall stores and kids and there trends that have trashed the real meanings or whatever of these different culture groups such as emo and goth. It does get a little old when I get called one of these because my hair is black though.

Actually, goth started as an offshoot of punk rock back in the late 70s, back when they were called "Death Rockers" before that came to denote someone of the hardcore metal/black metal type. Bands like Bauhaus and Souxie and the Banshees made the subgenre popular. It only started getting "big" in the mid to late 90s when everybody jumped on the bandwagon. So you could say Emo is an offshoot of Goth, whereas Emo concerns itself with music that forcuses on emotions (i.e. being depressed becasue it looks cool,) while Goth is more of a general affinity with things about death, the occult, existentialism, also incorporating S & M, torture, and bizzare sexual practicies (for example, the whole tribal life thing is an offshoot of Goth believe it or not, and one could say the melinial obsession with tatoos and body art came out of the Goth/Heavy Metal subgenre.)

Actually all that shit's pretty lame to me nowadays. I do still wear black everyday. But I never really got that much into all of it (mainly becasue I do not like makeup and am not homosexual.) Thing is who has time? Who has the time and patience to devote so much energy to your wardrobe and listening habits to construct such a carefully crafted image? It's easy when you're like 19 and have no responsibilites. But nowadays, fuck it. I have things to do.

i said Goth-Look , not Goth music :) I m well aware of amazing Goth bands such as Christian Death :)

Edit: Makeup isn't "gay". Visual Kei artists in japan are heavily made-up, and I know they bang alot of chicks

I'm 19, and I gave up on the "image" thing in the 9th grade ;-). Well said, though.

I can understand having friends who have the classic goth image (I have some myself), since some people are plainly into wearing black clothing, having piercings/tattoos/etc. But to spend hours putting on this whole charade and carefully picking out what is okay to do as a goth is just ridiculous.

I can't really stand emo kids in general. Some of the music is pretty good, though.

Anyway, I'm not really sure as to how this argument came up, since a good chunk of people on MySpace don't really try to fit into some sort of subculture. The countless numbers of those retarded themes or "layouts" is annoying, though, since they make my internet connection choke.

eh, id just like to point out that the term 'emo' and screamo came out of the D.C. hardcore scene in the late 80's early 90's. if they had any ideology it was to wail and bitch like women. oh sorry im being sexist, i mean cunts.

..but it has little to no relationship to the crap you people are talking about. some where along the lines a bunch white leather belt wearing panzys hijacked the name for some sad looking fuck playing a keyboard.

i never did like emo in any of its forms, im just saying.

    That's not exactly correct.

That's part right, but not totally.

Emo (short for emocore, which is short for emotional hardcore) IS an offshoot of hardcore that did come out of D.C. in the late 80's and 90's, but was NOT called emotional hardcore because of the song's content, but rather the singers' actions. Occasionally singers would have strong emotional outbursts during performances, but not because the singers were like "my girlfriend broke up with me, now I'm going to cut myself!"

The stuff people call emo today is more like "pop punk"

Sorry about that, but I just don't like the misuse of emo seeing as I'm a fan of emocore :icon_bigg
