What's that word for those religious people who seem very enthusiastic in their church, and have a preacher and they might jump up shouting "amen" or "praise the lord" or "i believe" (sorry for religious stereotyping - but it seems to happen a lot from stock film I have seen)? Looks like that type, to me. I must say that it is something that is more unusual in England - seems to be popular in the US, though.

I saw this TV programme once about a young boy who was preaching like that... you know... every few words they emphasise, like, "And I believe you AAALLLL have the power" or something. He was really into it. To me that was kinda scary.

Years later, I saw another programme with him, more grown up, and it became evident that he had some form of disability - I can't remember what, but he had a slight speech impediment, or something amiss with the muscles in his face or something. Wish I could remember his name, as I've never found anything out about him since.

D&D was the late 70s/early 80's Mortal Kombat in the media so lots of people still think it's detrimental to young kids. I personally don't care for pen & paper RPGs but I know a lot of people that do so I've seen perhaps TOO much about the culture, rather funny that anyone would suspect D&D to be satanic/blasphemic.

I have no problems with the religious banning all forms of entertainment, as long as their rediculous crusades are kept amongst themselves and don't impose their stupidity on me.

BTW, retro are you talking about Baptist and Methodist preachers?

I guess I'm going to hell for playing Final Fantasy, and Lunar SSSC, since I use "Magic" to kill enemies, no matter how fake it is. You do need to watch out for people that are too into witchcraft and sorcerey for real, though. But the Average D and D person probably doesnt even play but 15 minutes a day, even in an all nighter. 99% of it is arguing. :smt042

I saw the original, but I like how they used the FF sprites. It inspired me to make my own, and I already have several sprites saved. My first flash is going to be some FF sprites playing Halo 2, and they have arguments over what weapon to use, and how they are being cheap, and screenwatching. :smt042

  10. Indeed. That Jack Chick guy is an asshole of the first caliber - if you can stomach the 'holier-than-thou' attitude long enough to look through some more of the site, you'll find it's just a regular breeding ground for ignorant self-righteousness and misinformation. He's got a pretty big section on the evils of Catholicism - which, last time I checked was a valid Christian religion. Finger-pointing seems to be the order of the day for most fundamental groups, even if it means going after others on your own team. :smtassho:

But seriously, EVERYONE knows that D&D causes suicide and is just a gateway activity into occult worship, right?

    ...

I've played several times before, and it's a lot of fun if you keep it in perspective of being a game - but even still, the worst thing I've seen happen to kids who get too into it is that they become total nerds that wear capes to class, smell bad, and live action role play in the city parks at night. Of course, that could be considered a SOCIAL suicide - maybe the comic was meant to be allegorical?? :smt043

These people and their narrow-minded bullshit drive me far closer to suicide than D&D ever could.

Alchy, you couldn't have said it better.

  13. Jack Chick's website is a comedy goldmine of epic proportions. My personal favorite is the one ( http://www.chick.com/reading/tracts/0042/0042_01.asp ) where the 80s pornstar and his kid for some reason are wandering around in Mecca and convince some Muslim guy that he was worshipping the moon. This just raises so many questions. Why is this mustacioed honkey running around in Mecca in the first place? Is that just me, or does it look like God shot the planets out of his hand like marbles? Will The Caped Crusader save his Islamic sidekick before it's too late? Find out next week, same Chick-time, same Chick-channel!

And then you realize these people are serious. They really do think they're doing you a favor in trying to not only convert you to Christianity but the kind they think is the right one, and that to do anything less would be a disservice. It reminds me of that Family Guy episode where Peter says "Thank you Jesus!" and they show heaven where Vishnu was standing next to Jesus and Jesus said "Oh, it wasn't me it was actually-" and Vishnu says "It's okay, I'm used to it" dejectedly. Speaking of that episode, I have to go take a wicked yes.

If the writer of that article is actually serious then that is quite disturbing, I think. I thought it was a joke all along. I've played D&D several times with friends but we never really got serious, it was more like a fun way to pass the holiday. This shit reminds me of a crack Magic the Gathering player at my student club who told me his mother initially wouldn't let him play MtG because she feared that it would evoke *real* spirits...

OMGWTF, that is the worst bullshit I've heard in a long time alright... take some Drew Tucker cards to the principal and convince him they are actually 19th century Belgian impressionist paintings :ramen

search for the artist Otto Frello his paintings are some of the only fantasy pantings (roleplaying game wise) of a dane and the best of his pantings reminds me of D & D plus the worst reminds me of Magic The Gathering cards (yeah i think AD&D artists are better than Magic The Gathering )

a shame that Wizards Of The Coast has bought TSR :-/

damn i want Spellfire cards again they were beutyfull in comparison.

What a joke. Its things like that that help the minority rule the majority. Back in the late 70's when I played D&D all the time we would run into some of the church people who were determinied it was the work of the evil. They were idiots. Although you really could mess with their heads and as a teenager it was fun.
