Great Question as I love import games. My first import game was a game called Burning Heroes for the Super Famicom.

Ikaruga new for the Dreamcast from a import store in Chinatown NYC. I walked in and a guy was soldering modchips into an Xbox on the counter. Big Neo Geo collection as well.

I think my first import game was either Thunderforce III for the Megadrive - I picked it up on a family holiday to Canada when I was about 16 (being from the UK) - or Darwin 4081 which I picked up from a local market together with a UK to Jap adaptor. There was a Japanese guy at my school who sold me a load of his old Megadrive games for dirt cheap, stuff like Zero Wing, Eswat, Maou Renijishi, Wrestle War and even a MD version of Tetris (not the super rare expensive one sadly, I worked out it was a bootleg - can't remember how now). On a later Canada trip about two years later I picked up a copy of Super Street Fighter 2: The New Challengers and when I got home home and tried to play it for the first time it was region locked, so I had to fork out for an Action Replay cartridge to play it (the UK to Jap adaptor I had didn't do any AR stuff).

First import game I ever bought was Soul Calibur for Dreamcast in January 2004. I had just bought my first Dreamcast the previous month and figured that I could save money by buying the JPN version ($10 new) instead of the then more expensive PAL version ($20+ used). I ended up being very surprised about the spinecard, something I had never seen before. The packaging design was gorgeous compared to the chunky PAL cases... and this is how I fell in love :p

I think my first was either Daytona USA (japan Saturn) or Super Space Invaders (EU Master System) although I haven't played either. I did listen to the Daytona USA in my car once.

My first import was Pokemon Gold for Gameboy Color, I got it like 6 months before the UK release from a independant games shop.
Pokemon games where big then, we used to play them in school and my friends where like wohh is that real when I whipped it out, they had read about it in magazines and waiting for it to be released, because back then ebay and importing online was not common.

The Final Fantasy 7 import was a huge item back in the day since the game was so anticipated. I remember a few of my local game shops getting them. My first import was either Policenaughts or Metal Gear Solid 1, I seriously can't remember. Back then, ps1 imports came with cool memory card stickers. I still have my ps1 memory card with a policenaughts sticker on it!

Super Streetfighter 2 Turbo (USA) on the SNES for me.

I remember the excitement then the worry of if the region convertor would work for it!

    Was £70 though :(

My first import game was probably on the Dreamcast, but's it hard to pinpoint an individual title, as I went from not importing anything to getting loads of them. It might have been Sonic Adventure 2 Anniversay Edition which was about £5 on Play-Asia at one point or if not maybe a U.S. (English language) exclusive line Alien Front Online or Seaman.

It sure did, back then the fact it was running at 50hz with huge borders didn't seem to matter!

My first import game was Batman for the PC Engine, and even included a free converter to play on the TurboGrafx-16. I live in the US and had a TG16, and was envious of all the big-name games being released for consoles I didn't have. I knew nothing about the game, but salivated over having a game based on one of my favorite movies.

At first I was disappointed that it turned out to be nothing like the NES and Mega Drive games based on the film, found myself loving it anyway. :)

As a side-note: my second import game was SF2 for the Super Famicom. I loved the arcade game and saved to get the import version, with converter, to have it what I thought would be about 6 weeks before the USA release. Unfortunately, it was lost by UPS and when it was finally found, arrived exactly one day before the domestic release, and in totally crushed packaging. So anti-climactic.

That game had great music though! A HuCard -> turbochip converter is worth its weight in gold if you had a good importer around. Did you get many other hucards?
