Ive recently bought an V64 for about 26€. It came equipped with 256mb ram. the thing is when i do the short self test it says on one dram "Err 1234". The full test shows no error though. Does anyone know waht this error means?
I don't know what the error is, but many V64s have it. In fact mine has an error well, don't worry it's nothing to worry about. As long as you can loads ROM images fine, that's all that re matters. If it bothers you so much, buy some extra RAM when you come across some.
ive tested some roms a few minute ago and it seems to work just fine. i think i will leave it at that since it only cost me only 26€ xD. Finding a cd drive that works fine in this thing was a bitch though. Do You have any experience with the hdd bios? is it worth it?
No I wouldn't go changing stuff like that to such a rare device. I got the latest BIOS when it was shipped so I haven't done the upgrading process, although it's rather easy. I haven't seen a HDD mod for the system before, only a CF. Plus you got it for 26 Euros, if it works I'd possibly resell it for a CD64
I have had an error on my v64 before mate and it didnt show up the 2nd time i did the check so I would just run with it and unless your Roms stop loading you should be fine
I had that error on the short test, too. However the full test runs fine and I never had any problems with games. You can switch the two 128M RAM modules. Probably the error disappears then.
thanks for the help ive tested zelda with it and it runs just fine. i dont know what i will do with this machine. i really like the looks of it hehe but maybe ill sell it and get an everdrive
personally mate i would keep it, especially for the price you paid, its a class bit of kit everdrive's aint that expensive, just save up
Sell it, but I wouldn't change it for an everdrive. You're better off keeping it or selling it to someone who collects hardware.
It's a known bug, if you run the full test you don't get any error. The hdd/cf bios is some kind of experimental, It doesn't work. Just use a common IDE cd/dvd reader, keep your doctor v64 if you plan to make some dump.
ozone is the guy that developed the HDD/CF bios. It was not for general use as it it didn't have a file system. You wrote the roms to the first sectors with a hex editor and the bios blindly read the first 64MB etc. There was a whole thread about this on Dextrose. ozone is on this forum though and I believe is looking back at V64 again http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/member.php?64655-OzOnE
