Hello all. just recently got a v64 with emu cart and all cables and stuff. When I try to load a game from cd, I cannot get to a menu. When I power on my N64 system, it displays nothing on my monitor, but when I have the system turned off I have the doctor v64 screen on. :banghead:

When I take the emu cart off to play n64 games, I can still use the surround sound modes of the v64. Any ideas what I am doing wrong? ANY help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

    turn N64 off
Insert emulation adaptor with a 6102 boot cart (e.g. Super Mario 64) into N64
    turn Doctor V64 on
    Insert a cd
wait a while and press the play button
the screen shows the contents of the cd
select a game with the arrow buttons and press play to load the game
when the loading sequence is finished, turn on N64

you 'll want to make sure that the (i think it was called) "emulation adapter" is all clean and fits snuggly in between the top of the DocV64 and the lower side of the N64 -- i saw on several occasions that the connection went bad, and this could be solved by cleaning and reconnecting that little grey adapter between the N64 and the Doctor.

Also, as mdmx outlines above, some games simply won't start if you have the wrong boot cart type. Usually, you ll need two different boot carts depending on the game, the "standard" ones (e.g. Mario64) with saving EEPROMS and the ones with SRAM (e.g. Star Wars Pod Racer). Also, a DS-1 supersaver can come in handy on top of your N64.

Finally, if you do not get a menu or anything on bootup of the doctor, your machine does not work properly. It should show a text mode greeting screen showing the name of the machine and the BIOS version. You may want to check if one of your memory modules is bad (in case you have two 256mbit ones in the back) by removing one and restarting the console. One of mine got bad after a few years, and nowadays, those are harder to source than to buidl them yourself.

    hope this is helpful
