A documentary will air tomorrow alleging that Jimmy Savile abused several teenage girls as far back as the 1970s.

Savile was one of the first DJs, and one of the original Radio 1 DJs. His amazing charity work is well known, and his work with children through the long running show, Jim'll Fix It.

The most disturbing thing for me is that several industry insiders have come forward and spoken about rumours back in the day that he was that way, and that there was a cover up as he threatened to stop his charity work. Amongst those insiders are two friends of my Mum, people who I know are honest.

This news comes out almost a year after his death, so he is not here to defend himself.

The documentary, Exposure: The Other Side of Jimmy Savile, will be aired tomorrow night on ITV1, for those in the UK. If you're not in the UK, I'm sure a UK VPN would allow you to connect to www.tvcatchup.com should you want to watch!

Or you can download it from somewhere like thebox.biz or whatever the URL is. Sad news if true about Sir Jimmy buy it was the early 70's and a lot of shit when down then due to free love and drugs from the 60's. For all we know the girls could have been groupies and up for it. I'm not defending Sir Jimmy but sad if it turns out he was a pedophile.

The allegations are that it happened in several places, including schools that he visited, and that colleagues turned a blind eye perhaps (one of those links has a clip of an ex BBC producer saying she walked in on him kissing a girl on his lap). The BBC are now facing questioning by the Police. Pretty messed up, whatever the truth is!

I have never been a jimmy savile fan, truth be known he irritated the living shit out of me but I think it's completely fucked up that all these people have "come forward" over a year after his death....the apparent events happened from 40+ years ago!!! Why the wait? If it wasn't urgent enough to report at the time it's certainly too late to boo hoo about it now.

Just let the irritating man rest.

I can't make out a single word he says there. I feel dumb for asking, but transcription of the one sentence? =p

:grief:I think it's kind of sad that people didn't have the balls to bring this out when he was alive so he could defend his name, it's basically their word against a corpse. And by turning a blind eye and allowing this to happen, doesn't that make them an accomplice to the crime? I can't imagine the BBC allowing such things to happen. I think it's a load of BS if I'm perfectly honest, and even if some of it is true it's BS that they've waited untill he's dead to say something about it.

Er, if you thought I was criticizing your post, I wasn't. I forget who had it, but there was a youtube video link before my post before, which now for some reason is deleted, making me look like an idiot asking for a transcription of text. :)

    Here's the video, again.

Jimmy said "any way I can get my hands on them" or at least I think he said that. Last week they featured that YouTube clip on Have I Got news For You! (the show it was taken from many years ago). And even they are didn't know what he was talking about at the time.

I didn't notice you were asking for a transcription for the video before I deleted my post though doh.

As Yakumo said, they ask Jimmy "What do you do in the caravan?" He replied "Anybody I can lay my hands on". There are other jokes in other episodes too where they comment on him having a tracksuit / shellsuit as he was always running away from the scene of an "incident". The comments were made many years ago, but also after his career had basically come to an end.

My apologies :D. You can see why I came to that conclusion though right?

I think people are jumping to the wrong conclusion. Yes, it's a bit iffy to come forward now giving that he's dead, but in actual fact, that wasn't the case.

Some of the people now coming forward DID report it at the time. Here are some examples of what happened:

    - Jimmy went to a school for "troubled" kids (i.e. a juvenile detention centre). He had a caravan there and asked for a couple of girls to visit. They did - he tried to put his hand up one of their tops. She screamed, the staff forcibly dragged her out of the caravan and told her not to make up such horrible lies, and locked her in solitary confinement until she agreed not to tell lies.

    - A girl at I think it was a care home said that Jimmy abused her. It went to social services, who dismissed it, I think saying it would damage his career and charity work. The manager of the place was outraged, and banned him from coming back.

    - Newsnight were previously going to air a documentary about this story - I think it was just about ready to air last year, then it was pulled.

    - Jimmy has been questioned about it before, and always denies it. This includes being under caution with The Police in 2007 over a claim at a home in the 70s.

The problem is the power he had. He was doing a lot of good for charity, so it seems that people did tend to turn a blind eye. Plus, of course, everything was basically rumour.

Don't forget that many rape victims don't come forward. Sure, they should - but they don't. Especially children - they blame themselves. Those in the documentary were sought out by the reporter. Those coming out now may well be doing so to find some peace with a traumatic event in their lives... although yes, you could get attention seekers and those looking to profit from it, I agree.

Yeah, but with Jimmy, he basically said he did it many times. I watched the BBC Panorama special the other day. It really shed some hard light on to the whole ordeal. It's 100% fact that he was a kiddy fiddler. Very sad and shocking that someone so well known to everyone in the UK could have been such a creepy dirty bastard. What will be interesting to find out is if the allegations against him and Gary Glitter (a known peado) are true. I'm sure Garry will spill the beans on that one in time.

I remember watching the 'When Louis (Theroux) met Jimmy' on DVD some months ago. I never heard of him (because I'm not from the UK) but thought he was seriously strange and a real tough person to deal with.

It's sad that people are talking about molestation victims like criminals just because they were unable to talk to the right person at the right time about it.
Most rape victims often don't come forward for a variety of reasons, whether the perpetrator is famous or not. Besides, when he was alive, Savile was well respected by the general public. If someone had gone to the press or the police with this ten years ago they would have been told to fuck off, the sad truth is, if somebody has a public persona which is well loved enough, people will take their word over the word of a faceless nobody.

Yeah, absolutely. He had a great deal of power and could effectively get away with it.

An update for those not in the UK - it transpired that several Police forces had reports of abuse, often from the 1970s but not reported until recently. The earliest known report was actually made in the early 1980s, I believe. There were several from 2009 but the victims didn't want to co-operate, so they did nothing. And it seems that the different constabularies didn't have a system to collaborate back then and decide that there were enough reports to investigate.

Gary Glitter has been arrested, questioned and released on bail. I believe there are more arrests to follow. And Freddie Starr was arrested this evening, too.
