I got DoDonPachi on Saturn today, and I was surprised to be given a password after dying in Score Attack mode. What's this for? Was there an online ranking for the game?
I think it was for the score competition that was held (the first to get 300,000,000 is being rewarded with DDP Campaign version).
I think it was just the highest scoring player. NAL, won. There were other prizes as well... basically a participation "badge" of sorts to 100 or so players.
If the score was not obtained live and you just simply need to send in a password, what stopped people from using a PC + Pro action reply to fudge the value?
B/c the password system wasn't cracked. You send the password and your name, not your score. It was NAI btw. Sorry for the typo. He's pretty much the best DDP player in the world.
There is no info given in the instruction manual, the spine-card, however, is somewhat useful: The control box + arrange (campaign) DDP was the price for, I assume, reaching 350m on A-type? I'm not too sure about this. Maybe someone is in the mood for a little translation ^^ :icon_bigg
The spine card on my Satakore version doesn't actually have any of this stuff. I don't really know what A-type refers to - it could be Arcade Mode, but only Score Attack mode gives out passwords.
The info is on the Saturn DDP Flyer. http://www.gamengai.com/flyer_inf.php?id=387&l=e Better scans here: http://gamedic.jpn.org/museum/tirasi/SSSTG/index1.html It does say "1st place: 350,000,000" so I guess it would be the first one there? Kind of a dumb rule, but maybe they could've gotten out of giving the stuff up if nobody got there.
Oohh, now I realized that the "Type-A" must be referring to the ship you must use to get the score...which is kind of a stupid rule too.
It is technically the only way to level the playing field. However, some people might have been well-calibrated to types B or C.
