I'll soon be moving with my wife to a new house and one of her deman... I mean requests is that I reduce my gaming room. My main idea is just keep it simple: one PVM and one console at a time, while all the others are stored elsewhere. For energy there's already a solution the retrodc (http://retrodcpowered.com/) which is basically a 9v 3A power supply and for $45 I'm considering making my own. So, a similar solution would be great for audio and video. I know I could get a passive switch, that basically hook everything at the same time and plug all my scart cables at it but.. less is more in my case. A single cable with tons of plugs on the other end would make it way more simple. Any suggestions?
I personally haven't seen any, the only thing I can think of is what you mentioned: a passive 5 in 1 switch of some kind. I have one for my setup which works great and organizes my SCART cables, but that isn't what you're looking for.
yeah, I actually remember seeing a few in the past but I can't find anything at all online. Found this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Microsoft...475111?hash=item568c539427:g:QiIAAOSwFc5XwmCc If this works as advertised this could take care of: NES, SNES, N64, GC PS1 PS2 Xbox first gen.
Does it have to be RGB, or is composite okay? Different consoles need different resistors or capacitors inside the cable.
I know caps are big but resistors can be really small. They could fit inside the proprietary plug of each console. Like the Nintendo one has plenty of room for small resistors. Also I use the official nintendo cable for every console, my NES RGB modded, SNES, N64, GC and it works perfectly. The playstation cable is the same, despite people claiming the official ps1 cable should not be used with the ps2, I never had any problem. The problem would be with 32x (too small) or Neo Geo and Genesis that are very distinct DIM 8 plugs.
