Does anybody have a SharkWire Online cartridge for the Nintendo 64? I am interested in the contents, they are undumped as far as I know. If you already have a way to dump the cart, feel free to do so and provide a link. But I am also willing to discuss either temporary loaning or perhaps selling. All I really need is the cart, not anything with it necessarily. I would prefer to just not involve money, as I am only doing this for preservation and not personal gain, and I assume most of the people here share that sentiment. Anyway, I'd also be interested in seeing images of the device, images of the device in action, video footage, documentation, etc. Any info about this would be awesome! Thanks to @Schplee for the images!
I bought one of these from Babbages back in the day. The service had been shut down by the time I got ahold of it, but the keyboard was standard PS2, I think I still have it somewhere. Mine was solid black though, much more basic looking than that one. The cartridge is long gone, I'm afraid.
I'd love to see the keyboard, I have only seen the semi-transparent blue version myself. There was a black GameShark, but that is a different product entirely.
How it works is you plug it into the console, then plug a cart into the device itself. The phone line goes wherever your internet is and then you boot the cart. PS/2 keyboard plugs into the top of the cart as well. An N64 controller is used instead of a mouse. Certain carts won't work with the device since it uses a specific CIC chip for getting past the PIF copy protection. It is the very common 6102. This is an unlicensed peripheral, after all. Here are the games that DON'T work: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time Yoshi's Story Major League Baseball Featuring Ken Griffey Jr. Kobe Bryant NBA Courtside F-Zero X Diddy Kong Racing Cruis'n World Banjo-Kazooie 1080 Snowboarding Conker's Bad Fur Day That's pretty much all I can find on it. The PS/2 and phone line ports are standard, but I'm unsure if other PS/2 keyboards will work. Most likely not, unless the custom buttons are just different stickers on the same keyboard layout. The web browser is a fork of the Mosaic browser and the internet connectivity they advertise is pretty limited. They said "the internet", but what they meant was sites they allow. So nothing except the Datel website and some other sites that paid for being added to the whitelist. If the cartridge is dumped we can look into the whitelist and see if we can add/remove stuff. Although the service doesn't work because all of the servers used are down, we could still see what servers the device would point to and see if we can point it to a different server. It could potentially lead to some cool hacks and new discoveries.
Here are some pictures of the keyboard I got with mine. Still works! All the special buttons are standard Windows shortcut buttons, opens appropriate program in Windows 10.
Cool! I have never seen this before. Maybe there is a black cart version of the SharkWire online cart. Which means there may have been revisions as well! Good find, much appreciated!
Hello, I just purchased one of these on Ebay today and am also interested in dumping the cart to see what server it points to. I've read that you can dump N64 games with a Gameshark Pro via the Parallel port on the back so I will try that and if not I also have a GQ4X.
