Does anyone program on the Sega Saturn? I have this little proggy

Discussion in 'Sega Saturn Programming and Development' started by Benedict_Arnold, Dec 16, 2005.

  1. I was looking through a development compilation disc that I have and noticed that there was a program that helps convert PSX code to Saturn. I guess it was used to convert a popular psx game to the saturn but the coder states that it could be used on other games with tweaking (or something like that...I'd have to search for the CD again).

Speaking of PSX games, what program do I need to see .FLC files? Is that AutoDesk?? Did they use AutoDesk for psx graphics?

I've programmed for both the PSX and Saturn. I would definately be interested in seeing the tool. I would guess it handles 3d/graphics conversions.

There are a few programs available for view FLC files. (I think JASC Animation Shop can load them.
They probably developed custom tool to convert the animations, since the FLC format was well documented. I don't recall any official Sony or Sega tools that handled FLC.

  3. PM me your email and I'll email it to you. I don't know what it does but it says convert psx to saturn.

  4. "This is a palette reduction utility which is used to convert PSX data to other formats such as Saturn. At the moment, it is very "<removed for protection>" based using <removed for protection's> file formats, and outputs for Saturn only. It should be quite easy to modify for other applications."

Ok, so maybe you are right. If you still want it just pm me where to email it.

if it just converts palette is not interesting at all, if it converts 3d graphics and models it would be incredibly useful for emulators programmers! so? Can you let us see something benedict?

I don't think it's less interesting than 3d model conversion, which if anything is just going to be a file format conversion. The same game on two different platforms should be able to use the same models.

Palette reduction is quite interesting, it's quite complex to do and still end up with good looking results.
