Bucky, Superman, Bruce Wayne (who technically just went way the fuck back in time), Sabretooth, Captian America these are all comic characters that, died and well, came back, Jason Todd the murdered by the Batman readers Robin also came back. I just found out that Marvel is "Killing off" Wolverine. Which begs the question for any real comic aficandos here. Does anybody in Comics stay dead?
Wow, no replies. I can't recall many Conan stories that didn't rack up some permanent deaths, SSoC tales especially. But I'm guessing you mean more permanent characters, not thug A, sorcerer B, manbeast C etc.
That's why 2000 AD is the only comic book worth reading nowadays (well, one of many reasons actually).
Even Aunt May has come back from the dead twice. Uncle Ben, The Parkers, and Gwen Stacey have stayed dead. I guess sad origin story characters stay dead. You'd think there'd be some way to bring back Bruce Wayne's Parents, or Spidey's loved ones but doing that would negate why they do what they do to begin with.
That's one big reason why superhero comics are lame: writers are so obsessed with maintaining the status quo that anything important is either handwaved away with "er, it was a clone, or a wizard did it, or something" or anything interesting only ever happens in an alternate universe.
I don't subscribe to any comics and I only ever buy TBPs. That way any lameness I can ignore and just read the good stories like, Enemy of the state, Hush, The Hood (good MAX comic) amongst others.
No way marvel is going to kill off its most valuable Xmen, its going to be another publicity stunt like superman's death The only permanent deaths are in short series like Watchmen and the like.
Bruce Wayne's parents have remained dead, Uncle Ben and Gwen Stacey. What's Professor X's status? Dead retired what?
