I just found out that the game was censored in the US and I played a big fat lie. Wikipedia says it is region free, read conflicting forums posts that it will display english on a genesis?
It's very unlikely to be in English for the simple matter of it being an RPG. There's way too much text to have both languages on the same cartridge unlike other games with duel language.
nope. The Japanese ROM is in Japanese unless there was a revised release I do think know about. I'll have to look in to that.
My friend has a Japanese Phantasy Star 2 with a Megadrive and another friend has a US Genesis system. Putting the JPN PS2 game into the Genesis does nothing to the Japanese language.
I just tried the JPN game in my US Genesis, and text is in Japanese. Maybe they mean that the US version cannot play in a JPN Megadrive? I do not have the US version of the game, so can't test it out in my Megadrive.
Us and Eu is region locked, JP is not. Someone said the game has both english and Japanese on the cart, and that you can get the uncensored game to display english. Now I need to find an english version of the uncensored Japanese game.
After digging around in the interwebs I still think I'm not mistaken. I remember playing it (the Japanese version) with some import adapter on my PAL Mega Drive. Can't say much for my copy as it did not have the manual but the back of the cartridge insert was in Japanese only. Unfortunately while the game might still be in my possession it's nowhere near where I am now and I can't check it myself. Can someone try with the available Japanese ROMs by setting the region to PAL? Japanese releases with English text were not unheard of at that time. There are several differences including the famous (?) bath room scene that exists in the English version as well (fully translated) but the room itself just isn't accessible due to an NPC that was placed in front of the door. Someone would have to hack the (English) ROM to allow access and also change some graphics back to those from the Japanese version.
