??? So lemme get this straight... You want to spend $400+ just to play your Dreamcast games? ~Krelian
But a Dreamcast is a Katana. And while Set 4 doesn't have a GD Drive, Set 5 certainly does. The DC name change came LATE in the dev cycle as evidenced by the Katana GD-R media. It shares the same part number as the DC GD-R media, however it has the Katana logo and coloring. Yakumo's got a photo of one on his site somewhere. -hl718
I know - I've got a Katana branded HKT-06 with 'Carrier' burned on it BUT IMO even though they are the same they're still nott he same Set 5.24 says Dreamcast on the front it's a Dreamcast dev box Set 5.19 say's Katana on the front, it's a bonafide katana
I've got one with the arcade version of House of the Dead 3. Also have a GD-R with the arcade version of Blitz. Kinda neat seeing the raw code ports running. As for labels, your Dreamcast says Dreamcast on the outside, but it says Katana on the inside. You'll have to ask him for the direct link. -hl718
I have a Katana GD-R too with the JP version of Seitai Heiki Expendable. Katana GD-R have this text on the disc: "This specification defines a unique disc format standard originated by Sega. A disc conforming to this specification is called a GD (Gigabyte Disc) or GD-ROM. The unique Sega GD-ROM format consists of a region of normal-density tracks (the 'Single-Density Area') nearest the center of the disc, and a region of high density tracks ('the High-Density Area') nearest the outer edge of the disc"
Doh! Stupid typo. Yeah, it is HOD 2. You are correct. As for differences, nothing major. Just some minor UI tweaks as this was the initial port. Blitz is actually really cool to see running as it has no tweaks whatsoever (aside from being set to Free Play). EVERYTHING is here, including the "Powered by 3Dfx" ad, which is amusing to see running on a DC given Sega's history with 3Dfx. It even supports RGB out over the VGA box, but syncs to 15kHZ (just like an arcade machine) as opposed to 30kHz like a standard VGA monitor. -hl718
