I have get for some time a SNES-cartridge with a label written on it: MACS Basic Rifle Marksmanship Program Version 1994.0 I now thats from the US Army (The US Army is also the developer) and it is not so common.... I have only seen some screenshots from the game and that you need a special gun to play it, thats all I know. I have tried the Super Scope 6, but it doesn't work......the only thing that I can see is the title screen. Does anybody knows more of that game/cartridge or knows where I can get that gun to "play" it ??? I think it's really impossible to get it, but maybe......
(MACS) stands for Multipurpose Arcade Combat Simulator. It was the game that coined the phrase "Murder Simulator" by anti-violence crusaders. There are reports that it used both an attachment to go on a real rifle or old worn out M16's that were retrofitted to be used by the game. My guess is that it probably used both systems. The chances of finding the rifle are probably non-existent and depending on where you live illegal for a number of reasons.
MACS ran on Commodore 64 and the super nintendo. they used demilitarized or replica (rubber) m16 rifles...with various attachments telescope, grenade launcher, bla bla bla. the rifles had a penlight on the end with the trigger and stuff wired. you can see a picture of the setup on the website below. http://www.dma.state.mn.us/cpripley/ops/sim.htm you just have to scroll down. i read somewhere that the devices cost upwards of a 1000$...i dont know how true that is. id guess you have to have some sort of government authorization to buy one, but maybe you could find one at an army surplus store or gun show. i would bet you could easily modify the normal nintendo lightgun to work with the game. do you have any pictures of the cart?
Nice link, thanks, and yes it would be nice to see this cart in action, although the need for some serious H/W could be a problem.
I thought this game was sold to the highest bidder a little while ago? I thought you were the seller. Or were you the buyer? I'd still be very interested in trading or buying this cartridge. I know nothing about it except what has been posted though.
I think theres a dump of it floating around on the internet. Not very complex, hell its as basic as basic could get.
basic is right ! What is interesting is the light pen option. There was never an official light pen for the SFC/SNES was there? Yakumo
I assume the light pen was your "laser sight" for the gun. You would have to center it kinda like you do with the power glove.
