There's an extended version of the PS2 vertical stand in a lot of sony's publicity shots, you can see it here: http://game.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/20010704/scei02.jpg

Did this ever actually get made/released? If so, does anyone know the SCPH number of it, or where to get it?

Yes it did get released. I believe this was only release in Japan as only the first Japanese PS2's supported an external HDD. The model number is SCPH-10220. Basically it's the very first vertical stand for the PS2 that was produced. It can support just a PS2 vertically or it can be expanded to support the PS2 and the external HDD.

Thanks heaps for the info. I have the external drive, looking for the stand now. I also need the PCMCIA card for the drive, as mine is missing.

Is your unit SCPH-18000 by any chance ? If so you can use it with HDLoader games now as the open source OPEN PS2 Loader supports it.

SCPH-10000/15000 isn't supported yet due to some issues with the EE kernel on that ancient ROM version.

SCPH-10000, but I've got to get my hands on the PCMCIA card for the HDD first, anyway. So bloody hard to find, I'd be willing to drop some dollars on one if I could just find one.

Hey l_oliveira, can you tell me how OPEN PS2 Loader is progressing? I'm tempted to try it, but have some doubts. I'm probably going off-topic here, but i guess Klangaroo might use some of those info:

    - It's already stable? Worth trying it?

    - Does it load .hdl partitions? My PS2 HDD has lots of games installed through LordBoGaMi's HDL_Dump GUI 2 and i use HD_Loader 08.b to load them. Don't want to creat any troubles with them.

    - If it loads .hdl partitions, there's any risk of corrupting it's files / data? Does it load official installed games (RE: Outbreak, ...)?

    - Is it any difficult to configurate / set up? I also need to update my HDD's ulaunchELF, SMS Player and FCEUltra, so if it's simple i might do it everything in one day.

    - By the way, how can i load ulaunchelf from the PS2 browser? I don't even remember which version i have (probably older than the ones that could select skins for the buttons). Is it a new feature from the ulaunchelf itself or a trick? Was surprised to see it loading from the browser on the video, as i have to use the Dev.2 feature of my modchip.

My PS2 is a 30001R with Matrix Infinity, Samsung 80GB HDD.

No, it's not "stable" in a sense it's code is being revised quite vigorously by the coders. The current "stable" release is severely outdated.

    It loads:
USB extreme installed games from a USB device using the USB module
USB extreme installed games from a SAMBA (SMB) share through the NETWORK module
And HD LOADER games through the HDD module.

Also it contains an "IGR" (In Game Reset) function which allows you to reload the program so you can change the game without touch the RESET button and be a lazy bastard.

I have a bunch of installed HDL games (If you see my YT videos you will notice that my HDDs have like a gig free each...) and never any got damaged.

It's a matter of copying the updated files to the required locations...
    Nothing less, nothing more...

I'm using SONY HDD OSD to launch uLE. I installed it like, for example PlayOnline viewer which launches FFXI without the need of having a disc on the console. With a non SONY HDD you would need to find a copy of the HDD utility disc on the net ... (OMG noooo AAAARGH MATEY) set your modchip for ATAD PATCH and then install the hack that boots uLE from the browser.

Nice setup. Too bad it's a R series which means it has that crappy HD7 laser from SANYO.

Not all of the R series have the HD7 laser; a friend's v5 came stock with a KHS-400C laser in it.

Sorry if this is off-topic, but are you saying that the Sanyo HD7 laser is worse than the SONY KHS series lasers?

    Not worse. Much worse.

The only problem with the SONY laser is that the coils are fragile (they burn easy) and that issue would be solved if SONY had the good will of removing that idiotic Mechacon firmware bug that fries the coils.
But then why they would remove some bug they actually added intentionally ?

Well, i have the HDD Utility Disc 1.10 and my modchip has ATAD PATCH on. With it i installed the "browser 2.0" so i can see the HDD on the PS2 browser (just like you), see .hdl installed games, official supported games install, plusd two backup saves folders i created with it, one for PS1 and the other for PS2 saves.

Also have Beats of Rage, PGen, Geotron, Rick Dangerous and Flashback installed and load them through ulaunchelf.

But i never managed to load anything from the browser itself, like you did with ulaunchelf. The games i have with official install suport are Socom 2 (got the OPM disc with extra maps), NBA 2K5 and RE: Outbreak, and those don't allow loading from the browser HDD icon like FFXI does. I cannot even delete them from the PS2 browser.

What i have to do to install this "hack" for ulaunchelf. Where do i find it? ulaunchelf only creates partitions starting with +, right? Saw your topic at psx-scene and seems like a nice feature and i could totally drop using Dev.2 mode for this.

Mine has the KHS-400C laser, thankfully.

Right now no automated way of injecting an icon/boot information on a freshly created partition exists, so one would need to rig the HDD to a PC, obtain the physical sector of the partition start and manually paste the said data. Otherwise the partition would show as an blue block labeled as "Corrupted data".

As for launching, an "trojaned" KELF (Magic Gate encrypted ELF) file (FMCB style) containing uLE and setup with "DISC" encryption keys was used as boot file.

If you're really interested on this you can PM me and we can arrange an method of installing this hack on your HDD.

Of course this works BEST on the SONY HDD as it would allow you to boot uLE without even having a mod chip.

Well i thought it was easier, but seems it still needs work like you said. Anyways, congrats on actually making it work. Hopefully someone will help you on this. Any chance dlanor can update ulaunchelf to make it possible to create partitions other than + user ones?

As for the Sony HDD, the modchip is works so smoothly that my 80GB HDD works just like the official Sony 40GB HDD. I even used the HDD Utility Disc to format the HDD, when i got it. Worked perfectly.

The only reason i have the modchip is to play imports and use the HDD for both official and homebrew stuff.

    This is incorrect.

There are two vertical stands available in Japan.

    • SCPH-10040 Vertical Stand (for PlayStation2)
    • SCPH-10220 Vertical Stand (for PlayStation2) (expandable for External HDD)

    I've got a white SCPH-10220. :D

    Sick.

Only just noticed now! Don't supposed the external HDD would have much use on a SCPH-55006GT?

That's why I'm somewhat curious why the white expandable stand was even made- maybe there was supposed to be a white 10-18k?

I think they only made expandable ones once the BB Unit came out. Not much point in producing 2 seperate styles perhaps? I've seen a silver one before.
