Ok so Im selling a jacket for a friend on Craigslist,I get a email from someone who wants to buy it so I respond then I get this awesome email from the person. Here it is. Hello, I am sorry to inform you that my friend who was going to buy your item will not be able to complete this transaction with you,she has been admitted to the hospital due to her health problem, she informed me that she was going to buy your item and because of this i promised her to make sure i get this done, that is why i am going to spare my time to help her cause i am a very busy person due to the nature of my job...My mode of payment will then be via Bank Certified Check cause i will not be able to come over to hand you cash but once you have your cash at hand i will like to handle the shipping my self..So kindly reply me with your full name and address with a valid phone number to send the check,if you are ok with my mode of payment you can have the posting off Cl.... Thanks and waiting.... Yes it has scam written all over it:nod:
There are less risky ways of getting your jacket sold I think, wouldn't reveal my data too without ebay/paypal/familiar buyer.
Well once the person said Bank Certified Check I knew it was bogus.Basically you get the Bank Certified Check, sometimes it looks so good that the bank cant tell at first then they cash it.Then about a week later they find out its a bogus check so what do they do,they take the money out of your bank account and your screwed. This is the 2nd time someone tried to scam me on Craigslist.
I got something like that before. Told the person I said that they should not waste my time and that I hope the sick person dies. I knew it was a scam and didn't get a reply from what I said and when I was selling it, I didn't leave any trackable information.
I would have told them your bank charges $50 to cash the check, in cash. Tell them you'd be happy to send the "extra" money back but you need the $50. Enjoy your $50 in nigerian money.
