Hi all - does anyone know if it's possible to downgrade a PSP running 2.50 (owned PSP from new, it came with this software) down to version 1.50?

I've had a check on t'internet and there's loads of hacks and stuff but couldn't find anything from 2.50 to 1.50, just 2.00 to 1.50...?

    Thanks.

There is but you have to have Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories to take advantage of a buffer overrun....

Conversly, you could upgrade to firmware 2.8, as it is possible to downgrade to 1.5 from that without GTA.

!FIRST! Make sure your PSP is not a TA-082 motherboard! Using downgraders on a TA-082 motherboard will brick (kill) your PSP! Directions for checking here:

    http://forums.qj.net/f-psp-hacks-9/t-ta-082-fact-list-ongoing-important-for-ta-82-owners-59297.html

    Get fimware 2.8 here:

    http://dl.qj.net/System-Firmware-v2.80-USA-PSP/pg/12/fid/9070/catid/163

    And install it.

Then run this file from your PC, it will ask where to extract, point it to the root folder of your PSP's memory stick. It will automatically set up everything correctly on your memory stick:

    http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/974

Once that is all on your PSP, browse your photo's and attempt to view the 'xloader' image. this causes a buffer overflow which will let you run the downgrader application listed under Game -> Memory Stick.

That should then downgrade your PSP to 1.5.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywaRQJUTZw4

^^ Video of the downgrade process.

Once you are at 1.5 I reccomend 'upgrading' to a homebrew hacked firmware called "3.02 OE-A" which is basically firmware 3.02 with PSOne support, homebrew support (put homebrew into /PSP/GAME150/ and all region UMD, UMD emulation, etc. Get that here:

3.02a sounds awesome but one at a time!

Hey Sonikku, seeing as you seem to be on the up-and-up when it comes to the PSP, I'd like ask you a question:

A while ago I was planning on downgrading the firmware but ran into a problem that I'm not sure how to work around. Whenever I connect my PSP to my PC I get a message along the lines of "could not recognize device". I think my memory card may need to be formatted, but i'm only guessing thats the problem and would prefer not to lose my saves in the event it's not. So my question is: have you heard of this issue before and know any ways to resolve it?

The 2.8 can be downgraded now! That was fast...
You can downgrade from the 2.71 too, check this thread by Fabrizo:
    http://assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11990
The latest custom firmware is 3.02OE-B wich allows you to play almost ANY ps1 games through the official sony popstation emulator, not only the ones available on the Playstation Store!
Dickibow, check your PM soon, I've got a christmas present for you!

Fabrizo, what firmware do you have?
    What OS?
Have you tried another usb port or cable?

Never seen that error, and iv'e plugged my PSP into Win XP, Win Vista, Mac OSX, and Ubuntu Linux. Should just show up as a generic mass usb storage device. My only guess would be that the USB cable is faulty, or the USB board in your PSP is somehow fucked up.

An alternative is just to get a USB card reader for your PC. You can get a crazy 20-in-1 reader that will read every time of memory stick / card known to man for next to nothing these days.

 I just recently got into PSP hacking and have done 4 so far.

YOU DO NOT NEED GTA TO DO WHAT YOU ARE TRYING TO DO!!!!

Get the official 2.71 SONY update and use it. Once you have a stock 2.71 then use the easy downgrader which I can send you to get to 1.5.

Its simple as pie and I did a 2.50 just 3 days ago lol.

The downgrader comes with pics and a talking voice to walk you through it so theres no danger in screwing up.

Anyway let me know if you need more info on it!

Dark_Alex's custom 3.02 OE-B firmware is new hotness. Don't even need 1.5 anymore.

True, but he cant just magically jump to 3.02

He will have to downgrade to 1.5 or 2.71 SE-C first. Then he can go to 3.02 OE.

I think its easiest to install the offical 2.71 update, then goto 1.5, then upgrade to 3.02 OE.

Turns out it was a faulty USB cable, I just tested it using one I got the other day for my cell phone and it connected with no problems. Thanks :)

I downgraded from 2.6 and it is possible to downgrade from 2.5 as well. There's no need to upgrade to 2.71 or 2.8 and then downgrade. But it seems you have this sorted out.

Well, I was hoping my PSP problems were over, but now that i've downgraded to 1.5 I can't get oeupdmaker to run. I can see its icon in the game menu, but no text next to it, and once I try and run it a blank error message appears (no text, just the brackets).

Could this be a glitch in the downgraded firmware or oeupdmaker? I'm digging arround for answers on this one but havn't come accross any yet.

edit: Apparently the DATA.DXAR file generated by the oeupdmaker is universal, so as long as you can find someone with that or that can generate it for you the problem can be ignored.

Anyone know if 2.81 is able to be downgraded to 1.5 or lower?

Not yet asfar as I know. You could look through "psp-hacks.com"s news section. But last I heard 2.8 was the latest you could downgrade from and only if your PSP isn't a newer TA-082 or higher.

I'd like to play my PsOne games and have UMD regionfree but I can't figure out the whole downgrading.

    I've got:
US PSP, in the UMD-lid you can see the following number: IC6001

    I tried:
    2.80_-_EASY_Downgrader_0.1
this doesn't work I get the following error: NOT TA-097-081

My psp still works and I still have 2.80, Can some one help me out?

I don't own a PSP and i don't know anything about it to start with, but from what your error tells you, you might be having a TA-082 motherboard, which is in turn, bad news from what I gather:p

That error is telling you that you have a TA-082 motherboard. Your very lucky you got a good downgrader like that. If you had got one that wasent idiot (no offense) proof you would have made your psp worthless by bricking it.

TA-082 models have diffrent motherboards that cant be downgraded. They have actually just released a new downgrader that can but you really need to read up on it and find out about it before you attempt this again.

    Just a FYI:

The NOT TA-097-081 warning is telling you that you dont have one of the better older motherboards. They are called TA-097.

Sorry for bumping an old topic, but i'm quite interrested in the 3.xx firmware to run ps1 games. my problem is i have a 2.70 european firmware and all the tools i've tried don't seem to work. What course of action should i follow ?

    Edit:

Ok i thought i had it, but i think i borked it..i seems to have firmware 3.02 OE-A now but anything i boot, be it iso or psx file shows logo and such in the menu but when booting gives errors like:

Game could not be started (80020321) for game files and 0x80000004 for psx files.

If anybody can give me help, send me a PM
