For all my life I can't seem to tell any difference in pronunciation for those two things.....

    Drag-on slay-uh
    Drag-ons lehr

The "lair" in the latter is monosyllabic, slayer is disyllabic (two syllables). That's my pronunciation, anyway.

I was taught that "lair" has 2 syllables - lay-er. So that's probably a UK vs. US thing. You still pronounce the two differently, though. The "s" in "Dragon's Lair" sounds more like a "z", whereas in "Dragonslayer" it's more like a hissing sound.

I'm no English pro, but those two words are something completely different to me when it comes to its pronunciation.

Hmm, Dragonslayer should really be Dragon Slayer, slayer rhyming with player.

Lair rhyming with hair, stair etc.

So you pronounce Dragonslayer/Dragon Slayer "Dragonsleehr"? Just a guess, are you from the Southern part of the US? :)

I was thinking WTF? In English they are differnt and even in Japanese they are still different....

Dragons Lair (DaRaGoNZu ReA is different from Dragon Slayer (DaRaGoN SuReIYa) unless there is a game called Dragons Layer (DaRaGoNZu ReIYa) but they are still distinctive pronuciations...

However it is an american thing as Slayer sounds more like Slair rather then the British English of Slay-Ah... (source... http://www.thefreedictionary.com/slayer)
