Hi - i bought two strange copies of "Sonic Adventure 1" and "Soul Calibur" today. Both games are just silvers and came i simple paper sleeves. Both GD-Roms have a SEGA watermark and run on unmodified hardware. Think that i noticed some differences to the final Sonic Advanture, but i'm not 100% sure of. Are these samples like white labels? Or was any beta stuff pressed on bootable GD-Roms so that it's worth the effort to compare it to the retail version?
I would guess they are like the white label discs. Saturn sample discs were just pure silver pressed discs as well. Yakumo
Ah - thanks. My retail copy of Sonic Adventure is still sealed so i compared the silver to some videos on the web and i don't see any difference. Seems that they're identical to the white label version. Anyway - 10.- Euro for rare versions of Sonic Adventure and Soul Calibur are a good price and these silvers are far more rare than white labels.
Hey Ground, yes the silver normally are like white labels (used for promo), but there some units with beta games or development content on it. Yes, silver are far more rare.
10 euros. I think you got a bargain there. I have a promo disc of Crazy Taxi 2, I'd love to find more at a good price.
Silver Dreamcast games are 1st test pressing and only used internally for a few Sega staff. Typically around 40pcs. Silver discs for Saturn were used as promo copies. Dreamcast silvers a very rare compared to silver Saturn discs.
Interesting to know this, altough I'm confident that this only counts for Europe. In the US there were no whitelabels, only 'silvers' for the press (and GD-R's ofcource)
Thank you for the info - only 40 discs pressed as a pre-production run sounds great. Discs were pressed in the Netherlands so expect it is Sega of Europe stuff. I'll shoot some pics soon and post them. EDIT: Here are some pics - my mobilecam is not able to shoot better pics. The discs are the same as a PAL white labels - EMI CD Holland. You can clearly see the SEGA trademark on the silver GD-Rom.
Ok I see now. I guess it could have been cleaned off if it was on the discs. Nice find, thanks for sharing.
Perhaps in Europe this is how it is but in the US silvers were sometimes given to the press. Sometimes they were even sent out to beta testers. Harder to find than the Orange GDrs but in the US at least it wasn't an internal only thing.
I happen to have one of these left. If anyone wants it, I'm not a collector by any means. Shoot me an offer via PM.
Good news - i got another 28 Dreamcast silvers. All sealed with sample stickers and unkown content. Will be fun to test when i will get them - they are in delivery to me at the moment. All old Sega of Germany stock. Hope i will be lucky and there are some gems included.
I doubt that they will contain any beta stuff other than white label code. But silvers of Flintstones or Half Life Video would be great.
