Im trying to install a region free bios in this Dreamcast, i accidently burned of solder pad 22. Anyone who knows any spot i can solder leg 22 to? http://imgur.com/a/kOmTl... http://imgur.com/a/fIzi3... http://imgur.com/a/k3y5Q...
I have flashed the bios, with the dev bios! And the machine works but without sound? Im using an RGB cable. Soul calibur boot (Same region) Have some othe jap games but neither boot. also 1 pal game but didnt boot? Weird.
I have 2 japanese dreamcast units. the VA0 one worked before but i replaced the bios with an region free one. Before it worked but i got video but no sound so i soldered back my original bios now i get sound but no video? The other one VA2 works with composit but not with rgb? Any solutions?
That cable should give RGB without issue, although it does put 5v on scart pin 16 which only requires 3v to switch to RGB. Not sure if TVs might be picky about this. I would troubleshoot with a standard composhit cable until the problem is resolved. Do u have pics of the soldering? I had this issue after a failed piggyback bios chip install, couldn't get picture or sound afterwards.
Thanks Yeah know i have the original bios installed. Pad 22 is gone but it wasnt connected to anything. did you rescued that Dreamcast afterwards?
I soldered a pre flashed mx chip with link_83 bios in place of the original bios chip but still no sound or picture :-( In the end I had to give up on that board and got another VA1 in its place.
How can that be fixed? do you think there is something damaged about the dac? i heard they are very sensetive?
Update: I opened the cable and pin 7 fas loose so i soldered it back. Now RGB is working with my VA2 Dreamcst the VA0 still no image but i hear the sound????
Quite often its a simple peripheral problem, that's why it's good to troubleshoot using the simplest reliable cable. As for the sound/ picture issue, if u are getting sound then your bios install was successful. Maybe check the AV port for broken connections on the mobo side. Otherwise maybe a DAC issue, check for voltage signal on the composite video out (AV port pin 13). Have u tried different games (correct region)?
There is no bad traces, Ive already ordered a spare motherboard so lets hope i get it running then. Region is irilevant when i cant see any picture.! Thanks
I just got my VA1 replacement motherboard. It doesnt power up with my va0 controller port and fan. can this be modded to work with VA1 motherboard?
VA0 controller boards don't work on VA1 motherboards, the pinout is slight different (for FAN and battery connections). I believe it is possible to rewire these connections but definitely do not worth the trouble.
