Dreamcast and Sata HD Problem

Hi Guys,
I installed the Link83 bios inside my DC Jap VA0 and after, I soldered a IDE cable. I prepared a IDE HD formatted FAT32 with the Dreamshell folder inside.

At this point all works perfectly.

I tryed to insert the Startech Sata Adapter, with a Sata HardDisk, but the dreamshell is freeze.

I saw that the Sata HD must be FAT32 and the adapter is Slave mode, but nothing...



Please help me.

don't all sata-ide adapters work with dreamcast
use sata-ide adapter with jmicron JM20330 chipset

But the guys told me that the Startech Sata adapter work very well with this mod....

 

what is chip on this adapter?

 

The chipset is: Marvell - 88SA8052

I already successfully used a Startech board with Marvell chipset on Dreamcast but I don't remember the exactly chipset number.
Currently I've been using JMicron 20330 based chipset boards, they are cheap and work very nice.

However, SATA boards tends to be very critical on some DC IDE mods. The length of wires have to be less than 15cm and most important you have to take a special attention to Ground connection.

 

I have seen your ground pin must be have 8cm long max for sata hard disk maybe your problem come from here.

 

Someone advise to connect only the pin 2 at the ground for adapter ide sata. and if the shorter length as possible 8 cm max.

 

100% you need to Clip pin 1 wire on the ide cable and try again.it seems that pin must be removed for most ide to sata adapters..

I have a no name ide to sata adapter and mine did the exact samething,but once i clipped pin1 wire it works 100%.

 

For the pin 1 is not necessary and do often trouble.

the pin 1 is for reset
