I was carousing around the back alleys of the internet tonight and found what appears to be the Dreamcast BIOS, ripped and available for download (link withheld on account of it could veer into the piracy realm). Now what exactly would one DO with a Dreamcast bios? :smt017 Anyways, thought it might interest someone here.
well the bios is availible on the web becouse: there's an working dreamcast emulator !!!!! I also downloaded the emu I wonder if it works good... unfortuatly the emu only reads copys (but that isnt strange becouse of the GDR). So I need to try it out with propeller arena and half life I'll post my hands on soon.
I think word is that it's very, very alpha at the moment. Requires a 2Ghz processor, etc.. I guess you'd expect that w/ an alpha though. They say there's absolutely no HLE involved yet. Interesting to see where this leads!
Isnt having an image of the DC's bios (in fact, any bios) legal if you own the original hardware? Oh and if you're feeling adventurous, you could also try disassembling the BIOS or searching it for images/sounds :smt040
I'd like to see an hacked bios which makes your dreamcast region free and also alouds GDR's to be booted. But sigh I don't think I'll ever see that happen. edit: or better someone with an Devlopment Unit rip there BIOS and put it on your normal dc.. that would be awsome
