    Hey all.
I recently bought a Dreamcast, it was like 90$ (PAL version) because its really rare in my country.

So anyways, I hooked it op when I was home and it was working good, I unplugged it and moved it inbetween my other consoles. Suddenly, the picture of my Dreamcast is all blackened.

(This is from another user but it looks exactly like this)

I have no idea how this has happened or why, but I tried to clean the ports but that did not help.
Any fix for this? I really need it.

Are you sure your tv can support as 50hz signal?

Try running an american or japanese game and see if the picture is ok

I put a game in it and the screen became greyish and began to glitch a bit (lines flikkering across it).
It started the game but I could hear the sound really good and could press buttons but there was no screens only a glitchy flikkering.

    Is it the cable?

EDIT: Yes, its runs on 50hz all the time.

I just had a quick poke around as that sure looks like a curious issue!
I came across this thread here. They mention the contoured / outline and blackened screen.
Any ideas if the unit has been worked on in the past? Maybe ask the original owner.

If you are using a third party cable, they can be hard to get to connect properly.
The official cables I've found tend to have far less pins than generic third party ones.
As a result, first party ones are easy to insert and third party ones need a solid push!

Edit: With all that said, I've had a third party cable that routed video through one of the audio plugs...
I guess there's no real standards in the world of dodgy third party cables! :sorrow:

Its a SCART cable, it plugs in without needing to place any force on it. So its definitely first party.
I tried to clean it, the pins and the connector but no luck.

Maybe something inside the cable has broken? Because it worked before I put my Dreamcast in another spot.

looks like you're getting sync but not RGB from the scart cable

wasn't there a thread on this exact problem recently?

if you're tv gives you the option make sure the SCART mode is set to RGB or try cycling through the options, open the end of the scart cable and make sure its all connected and nothing is grounding or shorting.

open up the dreamcast and check the AV port incase someone has screwed with it or tried to do a VGA mod and messed it up

DC is probably fine, as mentioned it is hopefully a cable issue.

Will this one work on my dreamcast without any modding?

it should work, its composite video so the quality wont be great. a working RGB scart cable would be alot better or a VGA box
