I finally got tired of my dreamcast asking for the date/time. I found a perfect drop in replacement:

Just desolder the old battery and solder this holder in its place. It couldn't fit any better.

What battery can be used, BTW?

    (Ordering one, yeah!)

The dreamcast original battery is a 2020 (100 mAh), this new holder takes a 2032 (190 mAh)

They are indeed cheaper on ebay but shipping time from hk or china hurts. If 4 bucks was an issue for me, I would still be dealing with a dead battery :)

I don't trust those cheap eBay batteries either... they probably won't last long at all. But then again, if you had a socketed system, it's not a big deal to replace the battery after a few years, right?

    Haha, true that =)

You're right as well. I've not had any problems with them so far though. Oldest one from the pack of 30 (LIR2032) that I've bought has been used for a year now. I guess it depends very much on luck when you get them from China.
