My son was given a Dreamcast that wouldn't work, it wouldn't recognize the controllers, so googling the problem it came down to two resistors on the controller PCB.

I removed it and the two resistors, I replaced them with some 20 ohm metal films and viola it works fine.

Now he has a fully working Dreamcast.

I've been meaning to post my solution to this. They actually aren't both resistors. One is labeled R1 and has a resistor symbol (I don't know the rating but if that one is damaged somehow it's easy to replace like for like), the other is labeled F1 and this one is a 390mA picofuse.

It's F1 which is normally the problem, because its a fuse and so designed to blow. By replacing this with a resistor you actually change the way the circuit behaves (I've seen people complaining about controllers behaving weirdly after doing this) and you risk damage elsewhere if there is another surge.

My solution is to use 400mA resettable fuses like these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00X77Q7A0?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00

If you replace F1 with one of those, you don't increase the resistance and if there is another surge, simply power cycling the DC should fix it.

Has anyone tried the resettable fuse mod? Does it all perform as it should? I'm looking to replace the R1 resistor fuse in my dc controller ports and it seems the original value r1 fuse can not be found as its not a regularly used resistor also this seems like a wiser decision as I would not have to replace this component again

From everything I have read the fusible resistor has these values, 0.39ohm 1/4W 5% fusible resistor but I have not seen or heard the values you are mentioning. Om? I see the 0.125w but as I've said everything I have read has the value of 1/4w which should be .25w in decimal.

    These are what I ordered:

    Not a suitable replacement?

Hm, i use online calc for translate color mark, these are really not correct parameters

    Оk.
    √0.25*0.39=0.195 amper

I bought some similar polyfuses for my controller board and haven't had any issues with them so far.

That's good to know then, out of curiosity how many controllers do you have plugged in and vmus and such kn a regular basis? Mostly just curious about your average draw on the controller ports.

I have two controllers, each with a VMU and vibration pack.

Ok so it's good for that at minimum which is probably the most I will use at one time anyway thanks for the feedback
