    Hi,
does anyone have any experience doing a piggy back bios install on a Dreamcast VA0. I have done a few VA1s no problem but have not been successful so far with the VA0.
I got the chip from Bad_Ad84 with the region free bios already burned. I have followed mmmonkeys tutorial which has some info on VA0s. But the console only has a blank screen with the new flash chip selected. The Fan turns on and also the disc spins as normal. The console is working fine with the original chip selected.
I have tested all joined legs with a multimeter for continuity and are all making good connections.

Here are some pictures of my install and also inside Dreamshells bios utility. Dreamshell appears not to correctly recognise the chip and lists it at 3v instead of 5.

I have read some info that I might need to swap pins 1 and 44 but am unsure and don't want to damage anything.
    Thanks

Anything connected to pin 1 in the tutorial on mmmonkey for the 3v chip needs connecting to pin 44 and anything connected to pin 44 must go to pin 1.

The 5v chip has these pins swapped

Hi, Thanks for the confirmation. I think I have rewired it correctly but have the same results. I have updated the picture at -

Dreamshell does not support the 5v chip correctly. When I next get a spare va0 I will be sending it to swat for him to add support.

I can't tell from the picture, but did you lift pin 23 on the new chip like the mmmonkey guide says? Because you don't want to lift it, I just can't tell from your picture

Yeah that is unfortunate. I am still getting a blank on the new flash chip, I take it my wiring is now correct?

Looks correct, the chip would be preflashed if you got it from me. However, if you have been playing with Dreamshell its possible it's been erased

I wrote the above not knowing you had replied inquiring about pin 23 which was in fact lifted. I have now linked up pin 23 to the original bios and is now working as intended :D. So Thanks a lot for the help.
I have updated the picture at http://imgur.com/a/yMH27 as a sort of guide for VA0 for anyone in the future.
