I have been hearing some rumors lately, well not rumors but people have been telling me that there are still a handful of Dreamcast games than can be played online. If there are I would kindly request how can i go about doing this and which games would they be.

Thanks in advance for all the replies.

The following games are still playable online:
    4x4 Evolution
    Maximum Pool
    Quake III Arena [BBA supported]
    StarLancer
Phantasy Star Online (incl. v2) [BBA supported]

    And a worthy mentioning for:
    Doom (Homebrew port) [BBA supported]

Also some clever guys are working on restoring the online functionality of Planet Ring :)

Worth checking out for Dreamcast online play:

Thanks Man ! that's awesome I can't wait to play these games.
Phantasy Star Online and Planet Ring should be interesting

So are these games basically all private servers being run by a host? (I can't imagine Sega is still hosting them)

It would be great if service for Bomberman Online could be restored one day.

Especially considering that Saturn Bomberman can still be played online.

After reading through a bunch of online material a bunch of the people that are hosting the handful of games right now saved the source codes and files while Sega was still hosting them. So if someone did not do that then it is I believe generally impossible to bring that game online again.

Sega Swirl and VOOT can be played online as well though the VOOT server hasn't been updated in years but still works for system to system play. I use a Netopia and TLS2 setup to network my modem into my router to have access to all the games. PSO and Quake 3 are the only two that were playable via BBA so I wanted to use my modem without the difficult PC.DC server setup. Cool side effect was it also works for Saturn online play as well with no long distance fees.

Yes mine is hooked up to my router using a Netopia 2020, TLS2 (test line simulator) and a wireless network bridge. The ping is super low and never have I had a dropped game. The modem supports six games while the BBA only supports two.

Its really only fun with real people. That's why the online was so fun! Playing against the computer isn't as fun as seeing your friends make alliances and screw each other over in real time!

I still recall setting up numerous netzero accounts to play online for free. Yea it took some finesse but once you did it fifty times it became like clockwork.

I setup a PC-DC server about 6 months ago. It was awesome... it felt like 1999 all over again, just by setting up the PC-DC Server using windows ME. i never got to play my DC online because i had broadband and was curious how it worked with Phantasy Star Online V2.

That is what I sort of use. I take an analog modem to connect my 56k dial up into my network. I then use a tls to fake the modem dialing into the server. Works great and no old OS or VM needed.

Hello atreyu187. I have much respect for your work with dreamcast releases and have followed every one. Is there a place on the internet to download the case art that is usually combined with each release? I never bothered with keeping the art , simply putting your releases into a cd book, but now i'd like to start a project, putting the games into the case art cases.

Again, thank you for your efforts. Your name is sung through the lands.

Edit: I apologize if I knocked the thread off balance with this request. Just couldn't find atreyu187's thread in the forum section.

PSO is only playable online at this point on private servers. You'd be better off playing the GameCube version, since its strictly better in features, and also needs pirate servers.
