The drive motor from my Dreamcast went bad. it developed a strange clicking sound until it didnt spin at all, so i replaced the whole Drive with a new one. For the new one, i use the laser from the old one, as it didnt come with a laser. But now it wont read any discs(GDR, CDR). The only thing it does is spin up very fast. The laser was working perfeclty in the old drive. Could it be that the laser is incompatible? or does it need adjustment bcause of the new drive? my old drive is samsung, the new one has no name stamped on the metal case. thanks for help
Because you haven't gotten any help, I'll take a stab in the dark. You are sure all the pins/cables are hooked up correctly? Nothing is backwards?
yes, everything is hooked up correctly. And i noticed the new drive has in fact samsung stamped on it.
<- old drive with broken drive motor <- new drive. i also tried replacing the old laser with a new one from a samsung pc-cdrom drive (cd-master 48E SC-148) but no big difference. i also tried to switch the drive assembly from the new one to the old one, but the board of the old one seems to be completly dead now.
