Wombat made a video on how to boot a GDROM on a normal DC. He has the video on his site or I could send it to you via Email. It's under 5 meg in size. Yakumo
the most easy way is by just popping in an systemdisc2 and then boot one of those gdrs.... or just put them in the pc.. and read the 3 textdocuments for any names
Half-Living I know I have at least two versions on my external HDD, I'll see if I can dig it out of the closet after I get back from In-n-Out. ~Krelian
I'm having the same problem as Yakumo - I've a Japanese DC keyboard, and I'm unable to bring up the console. Then again, the tilde key which normally brings it up is apparently used with some intricate shift combination that I have not figured out yet... Then again, there could be a version of the game where the console doesn't work... And does anyone have one where you can adjust the goddamn mouse sensitivity?? :angry
But that brings me back to the previous problem - there appears to be no way to bring up the console,as I have a JP keyboard and the tilde key is nonexistant. :smt009
Did you try pressing that key that's in place of the tilde key? Or ctrl+alt and a key? From looking at http://mc.pp.se/dc/kbd.html, it could be a lot of things, and I don't see a tilde at all! But even on UK keyboards it's the `/¬/¦ key that brings up the console, so it could be some similarly screwy one. I'd suggest that one left of the backspace key. And do I see a £ key?
Can you not get a cheap US/UK keyboard? I can do you one for postage if you like. But obviously, it would be cheaper to buy one there than for me to mail one.
My local Gamestation have boxed DC keyboards for 99p (about $2ish)! No idea what postage would be though. Anyone want?
Thanks for the offers guys, but I've got a US keyboard at my parents' place - the Japanese one is a lot smaller with no number pad, hence why it's here. I tried the key in place of the tilde (covered in unreadable kanji) and had no luck. The tilde appears to be on the 0 key, and is obviously reachable by some shifting combination, but I haven't got anything to work. The obvious conclusions one could draw are either that there is no console function in DC HL (which I'm not sure if I believe, as I could have sworn that I read something about it somewhere) or that the Japanese keyboard isn't compatable. I'm no keyboard expert, but it could use a different mapping or something. I'll have my parents send me the US keyboard, we'll see what happens with that.
maybe u could try the ascii code that stands for the tilde but could be that works only on pc like systems
I think that when you hit the ~/0 key on the Japanese keyboard Half Life thinks that it is a 0. I have the US keyboard and can confirm that there is a console. Maybe you could try hitting keys until you find one that brings up the console(assuming there is a key that does this on the japanese keyboard).
As you can see on a Japanese keyboard the "~" button is not actually with the "0" key. The "0" key has two Japanese characters on it which are "を" and "わ" These can only be used when the PC or DC are in Japanese text mode. The "~" is reached by holding down shift and pressing the key in either English mode or Japanese mode but the shapes are different sizes (You'll need Japanese language suport to see this, probably) ENGLISH STYLE = "~" JAPANESE STYLE = "~" So it's quite possible that the Half Life console won't work on a Japanese Keyboard. Yakumo
I don't have a pic, but the tilde on my keyboard is most definately on the zero key. Obviously, if there's this much variation in Dreamcast Japanese keyboard layouts, I doubt there was support for it in the game, but who knows...
Well, as I said with UK (and probably other European) keyboards the key that brings up consoles in games is `/¬/¦, so on a Japanese keyboard it's not necessarily ~ either. It's probably some key pressed normally if anything - I can't see it being like shift+some key or some other combo. Why can't Japanese keyboards make sense? There's a '¥' key *and* a '\' key, but when pressed they're both '¥'...
japanese keyboards are crazy. Some keys have 3 or even 4 functions. I haven't got a clue who to use all the keys on one though. Yakumo
