Is it possible to build one, based on the same principles of the to-be-released-Zip-drive? I love Dreamcast as homebrew stations, and a hard drive would make it so much better
don't know to much about the zip-drive add-on so can't really tell you if that would be possible.. but I'm pretty sure I've read about someone building some kind of connection for HDD to use with linux on dreamcast. edit: found some project here: http://hw001.gate01.com/ikehara/dc/dcwdc.html http://www.fuzzymuzzle.com/Bitmaster/DC_IDE-HD_Interface.htm
The Zip was made and used standard IDE. So yeah, I'd say you could attach a HD if you desired. -hl718
Dan Potter of Cryptic Allusion set up his DC with a working HD, Might be worth putting a few Q's in the forum. http://www.cagames.com/
Potter made an ISA/IDE interface and rigged it to the expansion port that commonly houses the modem. It doesn't work in anything that doesn't have a driver for it, meaning worthless for any existing game. More than likely the circuitry SEGA had for it is different than what he built so if a game had some hidden function for a hdd it won't work.
APE, naturally. DC-linux comes to mind as a primary application to use the HDD, not having to draw files from the PC all the time via LAN.
