So fellow users couple weeks ago I bought a PAL Dreamcast and to my surprise it had an NTSC region lock*, so my guess it's that it's previous owner changed it with Dreamshell (a cable to reflash the Bios was soldered on the board). This means that I can't play my games, so I'm now burning Dreamshell's and CDX's cdi files on cds using LiquidCD but I just can't get it to work, my Dreamcast recognizes the cds as games and starts loading them, but after the boot logo it takes me back to the menu. I also burned Sonic Adventure 2 into a cd to see if I was burning them wrong but it works just fine. Has anybody any idea of what it could be? Thanks in advance!
There is no such thing as an NTSC bios. The bios is the same it's just a region flag in the flash that sets the region.
Yes change the region to your preferred one of choice then disconnect hst wire to the flash ROM. Constant power has been known to blow them out this causing the Black Swirl of Death. System will no longer boot anything without replacing it or a 4 wire mod chip to bypass the region checks.
Hey guys I just found out LiquidCD on Mac doesn't always burn cdi files properly for Dreamcast use, so just got a PC and burned it with Alcohol 120% and no problem, already changed the region with Dreamshell and took off the cable.
