Currently having a DC binge and this came to my attention, i'm sure we are all aware that Hydro Thunder is one of the main titles that annoyingly can't be used on VGA......or can it. Apparently the PAL version absolutely can't, even via patching, though I have read that an American release can? http://dreamcast-talk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=4088 The talk here states that the re-release with "HOT NEW" on the cover, and with a red disc can in fact boot in VGA. Can anyone here verify this, and if so, does this also follow for NFL Blitz 2000 which suffers the same VGA woe, but has a re-issue under the HOT NEW banner? Cheers.
Not sure if a re-release can boot normally via VGA. Mine only boot to vga using a boot disc first to bypass the check. But often runs with several glitches.
Hydro Thunder PAL worked for me via VGA with the swap trick. boot the game without VGA box. After aprox. 12 seconds plug in the VGA box. If it doesn't work, try it after 11 or 13 seconds.
That swap trick never worked for me, Ive found easier using a boot disc. Does your game gets glitched out in vga?
I did the swap trick a long time ago. I can remember that I had to try it several times until it worked. I don't remember any glitches.
Would be ideal if we could find anyone here who has the "HOT NOW" version, would make it much more desirable.
Some body call for the owner of the HOT NEW VERSION? It doesn't support VGA. NOTHING on the back or the manual indicates if runs in VGA
Have you test it? AFAIK the SEGA ALL STARS version are the same that the "Hot New" version. Here you can find the changes made in the "hot new" version for each game. I own the SEGA ALL STARS version and works with VGA.
