Ok so i dug out my old DC to play some long forgotten fav games and lo and behold its broken...the first thing concerning me was the startup screen was dark i mean black with blue swirl instead of the usual gleaming white...then i noticed i didnt hear the startup sound either...so i reset and listened only to hear a very faint noise. So is my av port screwed? and if so how do i fix it?
easiest answer: maybe just the cable that's not plugged in correctly ? pull out the cables, clean the connectors if needed, and plug them back, & try inserting them back completely...
Thanks for the reply but i've fixed it..i figured the rf cable was at fault so i opened it and tweaked the frequency screws untill my picture was crystal clear...i can supply a pic of the inside of the rf unit if anyone needs it.
RF cables seem to have alot of trouble with this mine still isnt working i dont think. if you could supply the image id be thankful
RF? Is this the late 70s or something? Your TV still have a big rotary dial on the front to tune into the stations? The dreamcast can output so many different kinds of video, even composite video would be a massive improvement.
You should really look around to get a TV that will accept composite video. RF is terrible. I remember playing my PS1 with RF and in Castlevania SotN, whenever you killed the Ice Bitches in the Ice Caverns they would scream and when they did the picture would have this annoying flicker effect due to RF carrying both Sound and Video. It was really annoying.
My Dreamcast came with an RF at sale. Most people didn't/don't know any different.. I bought my current one off eBay. The RF unit was knackered- a swift knock clunked it back into life. God bless anything other than RF!
My dreamcast came with the rf cable too...but if anyone wants to send me a free composite cable for it i wouldn't say no :110:
well I'm from Michigan (USA) and I have an extra composite (Red/White/Yellow) dreamcast cable I'll give you if you cover shipping.
These are the possibilities to connect your Dreamcast: 1) VGA box connected via VGA cable 2) SCART cable 3) VGA box connectedvia S-VHS cable or just S-VHS cable 4) VGA box connectedvia composite or just composite cable 5) RF cable 1) being the highest quality, and 5) being the lowest... RF & composite should be avoided as much as possible...
There is one little screw near where the cable meets the rf box, with that removed get a flathead screwdriver and carefully pry it apart and push the clips in to open it, then you will see what looks like a metal box just pop off the side and you will see the yellow screws. ..i wasnt careful and broke all the clips but it still holds together well
