First up, I'm a Newbie to the dreamcast, so be easy on me! This morning i received a US copy of Virtua Tennis, Which i have been trying to play on my UK Pal dreamcast. I know of 3 Dreamcast boot discs, Utopia, CDX and DC-X. I have a copy of utopia and a demo version of CDX. After using both of these to boot the game, it played fine, I went into arcade mode and played through 1 match against an opponent, But then it rebooted to the main boot up menu (with the "play", "File" etc. icons.) Whichever CD i try, i always end up returning to this screen. Any ideas? Will the other boot disc, DC-X work better? Or am i just going to have to install a mod chip or buy an import DC to play foreign games?
That's nothing to do with playing imports. What you have is a common problem with the DC, the power board connectors inside get loose and/or grubby and sometimes lose connection to the motherboard. It is fairly easy to fix, but it will almost certainly return. I don't have time sadly to write up what to do in detail, but you basically remove the power board from the DC, and clean and slightly bend the pins on the motherboard. Assuming someone else doesn't give you the information first, I wil write up what to do tonight.
If you can That'll be fantastic, or if anyone can direct me to a site thatll explain what to do, thatll be great also.I find it a bit odd that it's only happening when im playing a US game and its happening at the same point each time..is that common for this problem?
Aaaaah I didnt understand what you meant when you said it happens with each disk. If it happens at the same point each time in the just that game, then the disk is probably scratched or faulty. Try playing a different mode other than what you were doing and see if it resets at any point. If it doesn't, try the mode it crashed on before. If it crashes again at the same point then its almost certainly the disk.
Well ive just found some instructions on cleaning the powerboard, as you mentioned, and im just giving it a go now.... Nope, still doing it, on that mode, and the disk does have a scratch or two on it which i think must be playing their parts. Just gonna have a go on a different mode... Nope still resetting, although i might just let it rest as a dodgy disc, since this has never happened in any other game. Since i won it off of ebay for a penny, I'm not gonna complain too much either. Thanks for your help though Tachikoma, been very handy in diagnosing the problem
