Hi All. Not posted in this forum for so long, had a couple of moves and now a wedding to get ready for. feels good to be getting back into retro gaming. I managed to dig out my Naomi universal after almost 4 years of being stored at my fathers place. Its like learning about it all over again. The last thing I did to it was to mod a DC to use in the cab. Its a direct swapout with the Naomi board, power, vga and audio plug in to the DC without any adapters. Neat job. My question is about the Naomi USB cable. Obviously it not needed when the DC is present, but is it ok to leave unplugged? It wont harm the cabined control board to be powered on without the usb connected will it? Thanks.
That's a cool idea. It makes perfect sense. Is that a Net City? And is the face missing, or did you just take it off so you could work on it? How are you going to get the controls to work?
I think the Net City is more or less the same thing. Sure someone else here would know but in the uk I've only see these universal cabs. It's all complete. That photo was just during building it back up. It wouldn't fit through the door without dismantling. I can post some more photos of the DC controller mods and the console later. It's really easy to switch from DC to Naomi
Ok so this is how I have the 2x Dreamcast controls setup. As you see both controls are stripped down and wired to a 24pin connector (yes that's a PC ATX connector lol) that way I can connect from the Naomi to the DC in one connection. The VMU is on a ribbon. I removed the DC PSU and hard wired the motherboard to the power feed, then installed an internal VGA and phono audio ports. Not too hard as I remember, but it was a few years ago. VMU sits nice in the centre of the plastic cover. It was a bit danaged and cigarette burned so didnt mind cutting it up. Still needs a bit of work, but I'm glad I now have time to enjoy this cab. As I said I'm right between moving and getting married
